https://soundcloud.com/michael-zaneski/when-two-worlds-collideHi All, Back in 2001 I wrote a treatment for a short sitcom based on the book title "Women Are From Venus, Men Are From Mars" --I thought it might be funny if this were literally true--especially if crossed with some TV tropes of men and women from old shows like "The Honeymooners," and the pilot episode was basically all the storytelling in this song (which would've been the theme song, in shortened form)--100 men preparing for the trip to Venus, told from the POV of one..the singer.. Then I found this song in sketch form a few weeks ago and decided why not do it up..and I've made a vow to mix country with other forms of music, so be prepared for some bossanova banjo electronica.. ..bossabanjotronica? My sole intention is to induce a few laughs.. If there is anything in here that makes you wince--any line in here that you think goes too far, let me know! I can easily dial some words back a notch or two.. I grew up listening to and loving Ray Stevens' stuff, and so I pay him a tiny little homage in here..can you catch it? https://soundcloud.com/michael-zaneski/when-two-worlds-collide When Two Worlds Collide I I really love Mars Smelly sports bars And bellies that bump at the game Too bad Too bad all the girls Are on their hot little world Every last Venusian dame Cuz Six-hundred sixty-nine days a year chock full of cigarettes, hot dogs, and beer And I'm Ready, ready for that Magic carpet ride To Venus, Venus You know love sparks fly when two worlds collide I I really love Mars Soupin' up cars And whoopin' it up with the boys All All us liquored up loons Who howl at the moons I love that manly noise But I'll never get used to pom-pom guys in short skirts Just the thought of that makes my head really hurt So i'm ready, ready for that Magic carpet ride To Venus, Venus You know love sparks fly when two worlds collide So there I was, posing as an intergalactic exchange student, boarding the first spaceship to Venus. Halfway through the flight, an oxygen tank malfunctioned and we were forced to land on an intermediary rock. But luckily for us Girls A hundred of them Had a similar plan And like us they crash landed here All All the rumors were true They're hot blooded and blue And a few of them even like beer But They found out I told a lie and oh well Now I'm a slave to a Venusian belle but I'm ready, ready for that Magic carpet ride To Venus, Venus You know love sparks fly when two worlds collide Yeah, love sparks fly when two worlds collide Yeah, love sparks fly, love sparks fly When two worlds collide Bad Martian.. Bad Martian.. ************************************************************* Words and Music by Michael Zaneski (C)2001 & 2016 Michael Zaneski All Rights Reserved

Lol - I never know what to expect when I click on one of your songs, Mike. But I know it's going to be a treat. No exception here - this is awesome! Yes, Calvin's kind of song. Nothing made me wince - just laugh. Scott

Perfect formula for the collision of two worlds... written with style and panache... with a little humor thrown in for good measure. Kept my attention and my toe tapping for the entire 4+ minutes... and I enjoyed every bit of it, Mike. Another song that could easily be picked up for a movie track. Well done.

I thought at first you had done a cover of Jim Reeves.
Yes, movie material for sure. A clever piece of work. Very interesting lyric.

Mike, I'm a HUGE Beach Boys fan and this song transported me straight back to the Smiley Smile / Heroes and Villians moment in time. Youve uncannily captured that great sound, right down to the Al Jardine soundalike talking part midway through the tune. Even Mike Love would dig this one. I really REALLY like this tune. It's outta this world.

Now that was a fun ride, Mike. The banjo adds a bit of controlled chaos.
Wild story... yes a bit Calvin-isque, and melds with the music perfectly.
Awesome production as usual.

Oh Mike, this is too much fun! Great as the differences between our races, cultures, politics and religions may be, none is greater than the difference between the sexes and I say, vive la difference! Ooh, I wonder what his punishment will be? You're sounding great too. Ricki

Fun song, Michael. Men and women are different. That's for sure. It's a miracle they can even come together.

Hi Calvin, Thanks, friend. Your kind words truly make my day. I know!(your kind of song) I thought of you when I started working on this again, realizing, "hey, this is right up Calvin's alley!" Hi Scott, Yay, no winces! I had only test the "pom pom guys" line on my sister, and so wasn't sure..thanks. Hey Mike, Thanks! I should find and then do a re-write on the pilot script and maybe submit it to Amazon scripts. There's some fun moments for sure, like when lead male, kind of a Rob Schnieder type, is embraced by his Venusian master, and he tells her "wow, you're so hot!" and she thanks him, and he says, "no..I mean..literally!" and she asks quizzically, "you..didn't know our body temps are about forty degrees higher? That's..common knowledge.." Hi Dave, I think I'll be submitting this to the libraries, but might add another harmony. Thanks, yeah, I can see this getting used somewhere with a touch more work. Hi Vic, You and I and Ben and Travis and Ray and Dave would remember Jim Reeve's song! I grew up with Jim Reeves in the house, and when I started taking care of my mom some 17+ years ago, I bought every Jim Reeves album I could find, for her, for therapeutic reasons, and found myself falling in love with his velvety baritone all over again. And I considered using a different title cuz of Reeve's song! Thanks for bring up Reeves..love him..my original moniker here was "closemike" --kind of a homage to the way Chet Atkins recorded him..

Hi Dan, outta this world makes me smiley smile indeed! Have you seen the movie "Love and Mercy" ..? It's a must for Brian Wilson fans--it cuts between his sixties genius and his Eugene Landy years..it was quite a revelation for me, in terms of how genius is oft times accompanied by psychological problems..thanks again! * * * * * * * * * Thanks Robert, for listening and "awesome" makes my day! * * * * * * * * * Hi Nelson, thanks for listening. I always enjoy hearing your take. Banjos do add a bit of a wild feeling, especially fingerpick'd briskly. * * * * * * * * * Hi Ricki, oh the actual punishment is (audible) in the song, but I need to make it clearer..the last half minute or so, he's getting whipped and she's saying "bad Martian" --but it ended up sounding like he's being spanked..so that's even better, lol.. I'm glad you enjoyed it..I'm smiling as I write. * * * * * * * * * Hi Jim, thanks! I thought myself lucky to have thought of this idea first--literalizing that book title..but then I Googled a bit and found a movie with a similar plot made in 1958, the year of my birth, called "Queen of Outer Space" starring Zsa Zsa Gabor..only the Venusian woman take earth men as hostages..I guess I've got a B-Movie soul! Thanks again. * * * * * * * * * Hi Martin, I never would have thought Beach Boys, but you're the second to say. I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for stopping by. * * * * * * * * * Hi Travis, Roger Miller, ey? I like the Jim Reeves version better, though Roger Miller is one of my favorite all-time songwriters. "Husbands and Wives" will endure forever, as will "King of the Road." Check out his Mark Twain musical "Big River"--it's really good. * * * * * * * * * Hi Roger, very nice to meet you, and thanks. I'll stay tuned to your work--I've like what I've heard so far.

Hi Mike,
What a fun trans-galactic song! The lyrics are both clever AND entertaining, which isn't always easy to pull-off.
The musication was similarly funky (I liked the harmonies and "ad-libbed" parts at the end), and combined, I think you definitely achieved your goal. Definitely hints of Ray Stevens too.
Thanks for sharing!
Ciao for now, Beth

Hi Beth, I'm glad you enjoyed this and had some fun listening--it was fun making it, too. I love "trans-galactic" --I try to be a trans-galactic citizen, yanno! Thanks! Mike

Mike,
Don't change a word. This was great! Loved it. This sounds like a song that would be born if Ray Stevens and Brian Wilson were hanging out at Calvin's place for an evening then sent to you for polishing!
steady-eddie.

Michael,
This is great....I love the banjo driving the whole narrative and I've listened to this a few times....even ignoring the lyrics it's got such an up vibe with enough variation to keep us all sucked in....The whole absurd nature of the story really let you take off and slip in some interesting observations....Super well done! Love the layering.....

Thanks Mackie! I'm glad you enjoyed it. * * * * * * Hi Eddie, LOL..that would be a great session--Ray Stevens, Brian Wilson and Calvin! I can't begin to imagine the fun songs that would ensue.:) * * * * * * Thanks, Iggy! The book title ("Woman Are From Venus, Men Are From Mars') always struck me as funny, and imagining it to be true immediately leads one into the absurd. One of my favorite places to be! Thanks for the thoughtful listenings. * * * * * * Thanks again, guys! Mike
