Another from the backlog
Let The Years Go By © 2016 John Voorpostel
Broken hearted lover going incognito I’ll remember all but I’ll survive One day it’ll feel like you only bruised my ego It may take a while, let the years go by
The night train’s late, and I’m waiting in the darkness Diesel locomotives overnight Reaching for horizons, keeping to my promise It may take a while, let the years go by
In the meantime, so long, hope you find what you’re after I know I couldn’t find you anywhere that mattered
Some day you may find me, stop and listen I’ll tell you that I’m happy with my life For now though my dreams are like a sickness, some addiction It may take a while, let the years go by
They say that every healing journey starts with some admission and decisions... (how's this Chuck?) I’ll try dreaming my wishes away every night, let the years go by In the meantime, so long, hope you find what you’re after I know I couldn’t find you anywhere that mattered
All good dreamers wish the night away So good bye, I’ll let the years go by Day by day by day by day by day I’ll let the years go by
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

They say time can heal a broken heart, and I guess it can, but it can also usher in another broken heart further down the line. We songwriters have to be careful.

Wow John! Heartfelt stuff here!
I'm assuming this is your bridge?:
They say that every healing journey starts with an admission of addiction I’ll try dreaming my wishes away every night, let the years go by In the meantime, so long, hope you find what you’re after I know I couldn’t find you anywhere that mattered
For my money I would leave off "of addiction" in the first line because you've already used "addiction" in the previous verse. I think it stands up well without and you can let the listeners fill in the blanks in their own heads. Not much of a nit, just a gut feeling.
Anyway, fine job here! Best o' luck with it!
-Uncle Chuck

Luckily I've been happily married for going on 30 years Jim
Hey Uncle Chuck. Nice to see you dropping by too. Thanks for the input to that line. I think that's spot on and I have an idea or so. If that don't work, hit me again. Do need to keep the extra words because of the music
Thanks Michael. Glad you liked it.
You too Vic. Guess it's a keeper
Going to go change that line now Chuck
