Even though I know how difficult it is to get a ballad cut in Nashville because everyone wants mid to uptempo songs, I still wanted my last song of the year to be from the heart. This story song is one that has been kicking around in my head for a couple of years, but is finally finished. Brent, my friend and producer, completed the final mix on Christmas Eve, so it was a nice Christmas present to myself I guess. I hope you all enjoy it, and I hope you all had a blessed Christmas with family and friends. I know I did. Best, Marvin http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13282448

Hey Marvin:
I listened to "Hard to Hurt" over at the ramp and was blown away by it. Your demo singer did you proud but a song is not a song without those powerful words... and you have such a way with them. Best of luck with this. Always remember... a good song is a good song even if it takes a little time for the Big Studios and labels to understand.
Happy New Year,
----Dave

Hi Dave,
There is not much going on right now in Nashville with everyone in the holiday mode, but time will tell if this song has any legs to stand on. I certainly hope it gets some attention, but irregardless of whether it does or not, I am very pleased with the result. Thanks for taking time to listen and for the vote of confidence pal.
Happy New Year to you, Marvin

Hello, Marvin. I came to Nashville in 1975, and I am still trying to get a major cut. It takes the support of millions of people to do that.

I usually will read the lyric first and then listen w/my eyes closed to fully focus on the whole song and ask myself could I hear this on the radio and the answer this time was YES!! Loved the lyric and especially the bridge which pulls at anyone's heartstrings. Another great song in Marvin's Garden!! Love it!! Who did the demo?? Happy New Year, Lynn

Hi Marvin,
This is a beautiful song that I could easily imagine on the radio. Tight lyric and well produced demo. A nice way to end the year indeed!

Thank you Lynn and Mike for listening, and for the kind comments. Lynn the demo was done by Brent Rader who owns Brent Rader Productions in Nashville. He is a friend of mine, and has more musical talent than I every dreamed of having.
Happy New Year Lynn and Mike, and I hope 2016 blesses you both.
Marvin

Wow! Great write, performance, and recording!
"Using whiskey on the rocks as the mortar and stone" - awesome wordsmithing here.
Really strong country tune.
Peace, TC

Thanks Calvin, Mackie, & TC for listening, and for the gracious comments. I almost didn't demo this song just because it is so difficult to get a ballad listened to in Nashville, let alone cut, but I'm glad we went ahead and tracked it. Even if it never gets picked up I'm glad to have it in my catalog.
Thanks again guys!
Best, Marvin

Nice country ballad Marvin and well put together. Some really good lines like this:

Well done.

Kudos to you Marvin, great song. Has a Kenny Chesney type feel to me. Ballads are still worth doing, the pendulum will swing...it always does.

Hi Chester, and thanks for the listen and kind comment. I will continue to write ballads even if they don't get used. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for slow songs. Thanks again!

As you said it's a standard ballad..yet done well...imo. It was very pleasant to listen to. Vocal sounds melodic, has authentic sounding twang and marries to the lyrics with a sincere ringing message. Enjoyed it.
