Again, a song where the melody was something I noodled around with and then created the lyric while expanding on the sound, not sure why I'm doing it, but this is what I got. I wrote this to fulfill the challenge from my Songwriting Group to write a holiday/winter song. I was hoping for a cute children's uke type of song, I obviously missed the mark..LOL!! I know I have limited recording skills, but hope this gets the idea/genre across. WINTERTIME on SoundCloud WINTERTIME on SoundClick Wintertime by Tammy Jann © 2015 The world's turned to shorter days Autumn leaves and winter takes her place She sighs a breath of frost A cool icing, fall's colors are lost Snow's falling soft and deep she lays the blanket to put the world to sleep buried in your dreams you'll find where the beauty lies at wintertime she paints her art upon the stream the glass canvas of her winter scene brushing white with bits of lace covered in the wonder of snowflakes glistening crystals of ice shimmer in the chill of the moonlight Breathe in the sweet smell of pine from the frosted trees at wintertime the silence, hangs in the air a peaceful feeling lingers there Snow's falling soft and deep she lays the blanket to put the world to sleep buried in your dreams you'll find where the beauty lies at wintertime

Some very beautiful lines.
Only "Autumn leaves and winter takes her place" does not make any sense to me. Who is 'she' supposed to be here?
Cheers, Bernd

Bernd,
So nice to see you again! Thanks for stopping in for this song.
I guess it depends on what you want to believe. I am saying that winter is beautiful and a woman has decorated the earth when autumn leaves (play on words) and also assuming that autumn was also a beautiful fall goddess who colored the leaves on the trees, a crisp, golden touch that "leaves" with the arrival of Winter.
It could be Mother Nature in her Winter finery, or Demeter in her beautiful sadness or Frau Holle who they say, "is associated with winter snowfall as well -- it is said that when Frau Holle shakes out her mattresses, white feathers fall to the earth."
A winter goddess of your choosing, a beautiful artist descends upon the earth, a mother who tucks in the animals, puts the flowers to bed under her snowy blanket and paints with ice crystals, a silver, silent beauty, it has to come from somewhere, isn't it more wonderful to think that it comes from a beautiful artist? Just my take on things.
Tammy

The world's turned to shorter days Autumn leaves THEN winter takes THEIR place Mother nature's breath of frost A cool icing, fall's colors are lost

Lovely bit of anthropomorphism. I get it, as will most if they just sit back and relax. It ain't country. Ricki

Hi Tammy,
I like the mysterious, longing quality and the lyrics layer the images quite beautifully. The chorus stands out musically for me. A very well done piece...

Really digging your style Tammy, can't get enough of the harmonies! You give me a Carole King/Joni Mitchell vibe. Who inspires you musically ??

I spent my share of time outdoors in winter and this brought it all back. I feel like I'm in the scene you've set! Nicely done, Tammy

Hi Tammy:
This is a beautiful song and has potential difficult to even imagine. I like the feeling and "vibe" of it... and think your lyric is very well written. I wish you so much luck with it... wouldn't you love to hear Streisand sing it... maybe Josh Groban? Whether done with full orchestral backing or only an intimate setting of a few well chosen instruments... this is special. ----Dave

Hi Tammy,
What a beautiful, full sound you get with just voice, guitar, harmonies, and some subliminal vocals--hypnotic and warm, like a sitting near a lit fireplace and taking it all in.
It all feels really organic, too. like..all the music grows from that opening strum.
Mike

Awesome mysterious vibe to this. I thought all the pieces worked together really well, especially all the harmonies. I didn't mind all the "her"s and "she"s, it all made sense to me. Thoroughly enjoyed the listen, thanks for sharing. Good luck with this!

How did I miss this!@#$%^&*! It's soft and sweet yet mysterious and intriguing. Your words are pure art. What genre? Heck if I know and it doesn't matter. Probably your best piece of work so far Tammy! Thank you for letting us listen in to what seems a private place. Best, Lynn

Hi Tammy this is a cool number for sure. Great harmonies and your vocal is SOOOOOOO nice. It's really got a strange feel that's all it own.
Loved it and hope you had a merry Christmas and a happy new year x
