Well, more like direct deposit, but still...

Back in July, my wife and I released a CD of my songs. Mostly just something to sell along with tee shirts and stickers at our gigs. wink It's a simple production, home recorded album of 11 originals and one cover. We had it reproduced by Disc Makers and distributed by CD Baby, and signed up for digital distribution.

Yesterday, I took a look at our account... we had a higher balance than I expected, so I was trying to figure out why. Well apparently iTunes has streamed our songs nearly 60,000 times so far (through October). That, combined with lots of single song download sales, a few full album downloads, plus streams on Spotify have added up to a little bonus. Not going to get rich, mind you, but I was pleasantly surprised. Not bad for a project that I had no expectations of. If you stream itunes radio with a "Steve Earle" station, or anything including Steve Earle, apparently, you have a good chance of hearing one of our songs... I did yesterday, in fact.

We also have sold about 400 physical CD's at gigs, etc. Plus getting some airplay on community radio stations in CO (khen), MO (kdhx), and IL (WGLT). Guess I'll keep on keeping on...

Thanks guys! I've been listening to itunes radio the last few days, on a "Steve Earle" station, and I've heard our songs a couple of times each day. :thumb

Another statement from our distributor; since the last statement (end of November), we've had 100,000 more streams! Plus various single song downloads and CD downloads. Crazy, but cool. smile

Thanks!

If I could figure out how to translate this into making it easier to get gigs, that would be great. LOL

Add it to your promotions. "As heard on {fill in the blanks}" Talk about how you've gotten X number of plays or requests etc. Basically take all your stats and spin them into promotional fodder. If you get any sort of info on where your stuff has been heard or can extrapolate enough to say "played in 38 countries and all 50 states" etc. Work it into a positive message and also drop that "if you're a fan of Steve Earle (and aren't we all!) then you'll dig my sound and you may have already heard my tracks on (fill in all the channels/stations/sites you get play).

PR my friend... spin a positive and intriguing yard and reel them in with your talent and charisma.

Brian

Just Plain Quotes
"A lot of people will tell you that preparation is what will make you successful. But I think that people misunderstand exactly what that means sometimes. The type of preparation you need most is the kind that allows you to instantly seize an opportunity, change your course based on a momentary circumstance, and grab hold of the totally unexpected when it happens, and allow it to take you for the ride of your life! That is the kind of preparation that can lead to the most enjoyable type of success." -Brian Austin Whitney
