Hi all, https://soundcloud.com/michael-zaneski/no-enemy-but-timeHere's an instrumental with a sci-fi action/adventure vibe that I wrote for "the libraries" and also submitted to the Canadian series "Continuum" and a few others a couple years back. This is me composing in the style I am most comfortable--a mixture of minimalism and jazz. Kind of Steve Reich meets Miles Davis. I hope you enjoy!! Mike

Tammy, Calvin, Ricki, Michael, John, and Eddie, Thanks for listening, friends, and it makes me very happy to know you enjoyed it. Tammy, thanks. Yes the ending was important for it to feel like a piece. I wanted some repose at the end, and basically used a wet convolution reverb with the original signal turned off to create that blurred music effect of a suspended chord resolving like that. Calvin, thank you! I am a self confessed beauty junkie, and when I create something that a peer whom I respect finds beautiful, I feel like I've succeeded. Ricki, for some reason sometimes orchestral music can feel sci-fi-ish to me--and I mean in a style other other than the Epic Western style that John Williams launched into space with Star Wars. I think it's when the orchestral instruments are used in a more post-minimal way, as in lots of repetition, simplified scales, and a bit of stiffness to the music, so that it's actually a little synthy sounding in terms of the way the rhythm is so tight, like Electonica. Oh, and thanks!! Thanks Michael, there is that Flamenco pattern going on in the music! That might make a great version--adding a Flamenco dancer and maybe a Flamenco guitar. I actually never thought about the inherent Spanish-ness in the chord progression, but you got it. Thanks, John. I used to use near field speakers to monitor, now it's just pro headphones, though I do playback at different volumes during the mixing stage, I still feel pretty lucky when something of mine sounds mixed really well, cuz I really don't focus on anything at the mixing stage, other than trying to get a balanced sound. Dave, thanks for slyly slipping in a Thanksgiving "gobble" and I appreciate all your support! Thanks Eddie, still shopping it, but I'm no quitter. Thanks again, all.. Mike
