Hi

My name is Lee and I'm a lyricist. I'm looking to collaborate with someone who will compose music to my lyrics. I have Christian lyrics and children's. I have an idea of one song's music, but I'm not a composer, but it sounds nice.

Thank you. My piano teacher who composes music is too busy. It doesn't have to be the piano. Guitar, violin, keyboard, etc. is fine too.

Please let me know.

Thanks and have a nice day.

Lee

Hi Lee as John said, post your work on one of the three lyric forums(I'd go for F3) If it captures the imagination of one of the many talented musician/singers on JPF's you could find you have a song at the end of it.
Best of luck
Travis

Hi John,

I have posted all my lyrics. How should I ask for a composer?

Thanks,

Hi Travis,

I have posted all my lyrics and got feedback on them, but none of them were composers.

How could I get the attention of a composer?

Lee

Basically Lee it's networking and getting your work to the attention of the singer/composers and for that there isn't really a short cut.You need to post your lyrics regularly on F3, comment on others.Eventually you will get to know the other guys and it's from this point usually you will be in a position to ask if they wish to do a collab or they will approach you even.
Don't be downhearted if the answer is no, keep writing and you'll get noticed.
It's worth remembering that some singer/musicians are not equally good at writing good lyrics also.
One or two regulars on forum 3 post a lyric a day others far less than this but you can still give feedback even if you are going through a dry period yourself or working on something
Regards
Travis

I took a look at your lyrics and posts and here are some comments that are strictly based on what I saw on-line....feel free to use the suggestions or ignore them.

It sounds like you are taking piano lessons. That's great because at some point you will be able to write your own songs. There are many more lyricists than there are musicians. Being a musician means you will not be dependent on someone else.

I noticed some people gave you comments and suggestions to improve your lyrics but you did not respond, which gives the impression that they are not open to discussion. At that point, people on the board lose interest in your writing.

I am not too familiar with children's songs since it has been a while since I was a child, but having said that, I do know about song structure, and rhyme schemes, and rhythm and other things that lyrics need. Your lyrics do not work, in my humble opinion. They lack structure, the rhyme schemes are unconventional and random, and the words do not have an obvious rhythm to them. Although your subject matter and the descriptions are OK, there is a lot of work left to make them into usable song lyrics IMHO. You might want to get some books on the subject and see what your lyrics need. Your lyrics are going to have to be really good in order to attract anyone to spend the time to write music to them. Realize that a lyric that you can write in 20 minutes might take a musician days or weeks to make into a song and musicians are not going to spend the time on a questionable lyric.

I don't mean to be harsh but I think you need to go back and improve what you have written.

Colin

Moving this over to the Songwriter Message Forum: Post any songwriter oriented notes here you want. If you are looking for a co-writer, a lyricist, a composer etc, please post here!

Kevin

Edit: Hmmm, I supposedly left a link over in the MP3 section, but it didn't leave a link -- I guess I don't know how that works! (OK, it moved it the the bottom of the page over in MP3 land).

Lee....Unfortunately I have to agree with Jim. Your lyrics are not structured well enough to write a melody for them. You need to listen and study lyrics from songs preferably hit songs as there is a math and a rhythm to the words. What you have now is just not good enough.

I used to tutor a lyricist from Australia and helped him re structure his words and THEN I made them into a song. I had to charge him money ($100) for the service but I did 35 Songs for him over time and eventually he actually got the hang of it and didn't need me anymore.
I'm not saying you should pay BUT you need help.

Hi Lee:

I believe Colin has provided you with invaluable information. Perhaps you should learn to play an instrument (maybe chords only) and begin to learn to do both melodies and lyrics in order to create a song. It can be as simple as a guitar or ukelele, Piano is probably the most expressive or you might consider a keyboard.

A lesson or two from someone experienced and/or well qualified will get you up and running much faster than trying to do it on your own... although that is possible.

You are working in a narrow segment of music genres and will probably have a difficult time attracting an experienced composer unless you are willing to allow significant rewrites of portions of your lyrics in order to make them fit the music for the purpose of singing the resultant song with more comfort on the part of the vocalist. (Make an attempt to sing your own songs and you will quickly learn the importance of phrasing.)

Only you can determine if your vocal is satisfactory for the type songs you want to create. It is an uphill climb and depending on your work ethic, may come with ease or with great difficulty.

I began as a lyricist, acquired an Arranger Keyboard, learned to sing as best I could (no lessons) and eventually became proficient enough to write and sing my own demos. I have no desire to be an artist. I only need to rovide better singers an idea of how the song should sound as I envision it... in case they might be interested in doing a "cover."

Best of luck you. ----Dave
