Another song - this time in a bluegrass vein - featuring Mike Zaneski's multiple skills as a composer & vocalist. I sent him the lyric and a vocal melody, which he was free to enhance, and he came up with the goods. Just sharing, so no critique necessary, thanks. We hope you enjoy it. http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13234266Three CrowsV1 Three crows restin’ on a rickety fence Callin’ my name, but it don’t make sense I keep on tellin’ ‘em I’m too young to die V2 Three crows perchin’ on a window ledge Lookin’ right in, now I'm feelin’ on edge I keep on tellin’ em I’m too young to die V3 Three crows standin’ at the foot of my bed Beady black eyes borin’ into my head I keep on tellin’ 'em I’m too young to die Bridge But them old birds never pay no mind ...Waitin' there until they know it’s time Then in they swoop on ebony wings Tearin' at the past an' the ache it brings Peckin' at bones of old regrets Strippin’ ‘em bare to help you forget Solo V4 Three crows restin’ on a weatherworn stone Hummin’ my name, though I thought they’d flown ‘Cause I kept on tellin’ ‘em I was too young to die I kept on tellin' 'em I was too young to die © 2015 Donna Devine

Hi Donna and Mike:
So glad I took time to listen. As usual, the lyric deserves the best melody, vocal and backing to bring out all the little nuances of the story... and, as usual, Mr. Zaneski did such a great job. I think that bridge is one of the most effective I've ever heard. Five stars in a five star rating system, my friends. I can't wait to listen again. Best of luck with it. ----Dave

This actually might be the style that is meant to be for Mike -- it is super excellent all the way through.
... and a super-duper mighty fine write -- great lyrics.

Vic, Dave, Kevin, Floyd, Colin, Michael L, Lisa, and Calvin,
Thanks all, for listening, and it makes me really happy to know you all enjoyed it!
I was worried that the verses sounded too happy, considering the singer's plight. But then I thought about all those happy sounding Hank Williams Sr. songs that were really sad.
Donna has a real knack for honing in the exact vernacular needed for a particular style, and this was no exception. I felt I'd traveled back in time!
Mike

I really like these lyrics, each verse so tight and full of great images. The music fit them perfectly as well. I can't say I cared much for the vocal though. If there were effects put on it, it made it sound like Mike just sucked on some helium, not the sound I was expecting because I know what a fantastic voice he has. Just my opinion. A fine song overall. I still enjoyed my listen.

Vic, Dave, Kevin, Floyd, Colin, Mike L., Lisa, Calvin, Travis, and Ricki, thank you all so much for your lovely comments on the song. I'm very pleased that you enjoyed it. Mike has done a stellar job. Amazing how such a basically simple lyric can take on so much life and character with the right music and vocals. I expect we'll be teaming up for at least one or two more along these lines. Donna

This is a really delightful song! I just listened a couple of times (and will listen again fer sure!!) Great work Donna and Michael!
I really enjoyed the light-hearted feel of the music and vocal performance and the contrast that made with the darker lyrics. Michael's vocals were just awesome!
And those lyrics are Instant Classic Donna! Just brilliant structure and hook and title. The way the story advances with that lovely bridge. Wow! This is one of those I read/hear and immediately wish I had written!
Great work you two!!

Ricki, I'm relieved that another set of headphones made all the difference. John, thank you for your very kind comments. Indeed, Mike did a splendid job here. Donna

Donna, I really like this. The bridge almost has the feeling of a chorus to me, where it could be thrown in in between the verses. Thats just me though. I like it as is too.
