Hi friends. I havnt been around for a while. I have been looking after Helen for a while. She has gone into hospital tonight (for an operation)not emergency. She is going to have her leg amputated tomorrow, and I would appreciate any prayers her way for the operation to go smoothly. She isnt a spring chicken any more and any operation holds some risks.
Also prayers please to help her with the pain she is suffering.
all appreciated.. God Bless Roy and Helen

Best wishes, Roy!
One of my students is a doctor, and she told me that medicine today easily can swap out any limb or organ in our body.
It's so great it can be done, and that Helen can be relieved of the pain and function well again.

Thanks so much to everyone and I shall be sure to read your wonderful thoughts out to Helen when she is awake fully. She had the operation a few hours ago and is in ICU at the moment for recovery. She did wake for a few seconds and remarked that her foot was itching, so I suspect that with the morphine she is a bit out of it.
It was actually Helen who begged them to remove the leg as 2 years of extreme pain without any hope of fixing was taking it toll. She has been on morphine at home for the last six months, so either in pain, asleep or in a slightly different world.
It had to come off anyway, as the gangrene had set in and she got through the last four months of having virtually no blood reaching the bottom of her leg and foot. She has been so brave in the way she has coped. God Bless her.
And God Bless to all Roy and Helen
------------------------------------------------- Thanks Lynn for you kind words, and fortunately, if you can call it that the leg was amputated at the knee joint so they didn't have to cut any bone, and the exposed part is smooth already and not open.
We will stay strong.
thanks again and God Bless from us both.
------------------------------------------------
Thanks Midnite and a great sentiment that both myself, and Helen really do appriciate.
thanks again and God Bless from us both.
--------------------------------------------------
Barry, thanks so much for your kind words and prayers.
Not diabetes, Helen got run over 25 years ago and every bone in her leg was crushed. The veins in her ankle were also crushed. Five years ago the blood finally stopped reaching her foot and they found she had vascular desease in her leg. About 2 years ago they replaced her veins in the leg but couldn't do it in her ankle so she has suffered most of this time. About 6 months ago they had to redo it, but the foot never healed and 4 months ago her foot turned black. The tried to save it, but not to be.
She's on morphine at the moment....
thanks again and God Bless from us both.
---------------------------------------------------
Kevin thanks so much friend. will read to Helen when she is awake.

Roy, I have a friend I used to work with who suffered from a broken foot and leg in an accident years ago. They tried surgery and a special shoe but the pain never went away. He finally opted to have his leg amputated at the same point you say Helen's was. I hadn't seen him in a few years and after hearing the news finally I called him to see how he was doing. He said it was the best decision he ever made. He's wearing a prosthetic and worked a couple more years as a factory upholsterer, standing on his feet all day. You would never know it was a prosthetic from the way he moved.
My father in law just had to have all his toes amputated along with half of his right foot from complications of a heart by-pass 10 weeks ago. He's doing reasonably well with rehab now and is expected to be able to walk fairly normally once healed completely due to special shoes he'll be wearing. I hope Helen will have much success in the same way.
Please let her know Little Stevie B. is praying for her complete recovery. God bless you both, Roy and Helen.
Stevie

Thanks Barry, Colin, Stevie, Glynda, Nigal and Lisa for all of your kind thoughts and wishes. Helen is still not out of the woods yet and has had a couple of small setbacks, but hopefully is on the mend.
She's in a ward now. Well a room in the ward area, but isn't eating or drinking too well.
Will let you know how things go.
God Bless to all
Roy and Helen

Just wanted to add my positive thoughts and well wishes, Roy. My wife is currently in the hospital recovering from surgery too, so reading your post hit home. I really hope that Helen gets relief and peace from this. She certainly seems to have a lot of kind-hearted people pulling for her. Not to mention a good man by her side!

Just checking in, Roy.
Prayers, and healing, are both "processes". It's not in & out, one & done.
Continuing to hold you both in my heart for healing.
Keep in touch as best as time allows. But no rush. We're here 24-7.
Blessings to you both!

Steve, thanks so much for you kind thoughts and sorry to hear that your wife is recovering from surgery as well. My prayers and thoughts are with you both. ---------------------------- Midnight, things are improving well on the phisical and emotional level and Helen is now in general wards. With the operation and drugs and still taking morhine, she is being very forgetful at the moment abnd quite confused at times. But when family or frinds are with her, she is her normal self.
Seems that whenever Helen has an operation she is on a different place afterwards, so we are both used to it. When she can't remember the day before, she just laughs and says, who wants to remember yesterday anyway.
Thanks for keeping in touch friend.
I have spent the last two weeks while this is going on, pimping the bedroom and front room to make sure her life is not too difficult when she comes home. As usual I have gone over the top..lol
I will post a picture of what I have done, once she comes home.. some will say great, others, crazy...lol
thanks again ---------------------- maccharles, I'm sure it will, and thanks friend for your kind words. ---------------------------------- Kimberly, thanks for your kind words and prayers which are always appreciated -----------------------------
God Bless from me and Helen to all

Lemme get this straight... Helen goes into surgery, and Roy decides to write his first "Rap" song, which Helen loves!!! Just curious, what kind of pain killers was she on when you sang it to her??? Roy then decides to pimp out the bedroom???? I guess Roger Miller was right when he wrote: England swings.... Prayers continuing from the boring side of The Pond! Midnite P.S...On the serious side, Roy, you and Helen are an ongoing inspiration for us all, for so many various reasons! God Bless & Keep! Midnite

Well Helen is getting better by the day, apart from the morphine effects... she had the specialist in today teaching her how to get from the bed to the wheelchair and she managed to turn a full circle and get into the corridor and down a bit and back. I gave her some big claps and told her that I was very proud of her. At 78 years young I thought that she wouldn't manage too well. They have said that once she can wizz around the wards, she will be going to the rehab for amputees for more advanced traning and to see if she could manage a prosthetic limb. I have read of of your kind messages to her and she got a real lift and sends all of her love back at everyone. On another note I am still pimping her bedroom so no pictures yet, but will post them when its finished. The people next door asked if I was building a house in a house lol... For the rap song that I have written in the evenings and at nights, Its finished but is now a hip pop / pop / rock crossover with some RAP in it. It's amazing what you can do when suddenly the person you spend the most time with isn't there, albeit only for a while... I will put the video below this post and also will be posting it in the mp3 section with more info on it. Hope that you like it. --------------------------------- Songcat, I was crazy when I met Helen, so why should I change now, just because I'm older..lol and thanks friend for the superb demo that you did for me on 'Life's Licks'. My new hip hop / pop / rock crossover song. -------------------------------- Midnight Good old Roger Miller... Thanks friend for all the kind words and for your support. So I can always blame Helen if the song is no good..lol ---------------------------------------- Mackie, thanks friend for your prayers. -------------------- Caroline, thanks for your prayers and I've always told Helen she is lucky to have me as well..lol I think she is amazing, and I wonder how many can say that after 30 years together, we have never ever had one augment or row. And it's not cause we ignore each other, its just that we love the same things and hate the same things. thanks again ----------------------------- Glyn, that so much for your lovely thoughts and prayers. I always look on your thoughts as special because I know that you have so much yourself to worry about and yet you take the time. You are a special lady to me and Helen thanks again -------------------------------------- God bless to all from me and Helen and will keep you updated. pics of the pimped bedroom coming soon I hope. Here is the link to the the song I wrote while Helen has been in hospital. The video is in the mp3 section, called 'Life's Licks' http://www.jpfolks.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1094366&page=0#Post1094366Lick's of course is referring to when something bad happens.
