Some of you have been asking if and when we run a new competition. We recently teamed up with a songwriting coach and to celebrate the new partnership we launched a competition. You can check it out at http://songcat.biz/competition.html

Could you link to any of Mr. Bell's own songs? He looks a little wet behind the ears to me.
What is he, like 12?

Not 12, almost 30 actually. Some just stay in better shape than others. Having checked your website I'm guessing you're 80 ;-)

Fair question, but doing some research will help wonders. Ed is active in screen writing, songwriting and as a musical director for theatre in New York and London.

He graduated from Cambridge University and The Royal College of Music in London which gives him a lot of music theory knowledge. Some like to execute knowledge while others like to pass on knowledge to others.

Every client of ours that had a skype session with Ed was amazed by the tips and advice they received, that's why we decided to go into a business partnership with him. I'm sure anyone can learn something from him and the best part is, the session is free for the one who wins it.

An ad hominem attack? About the response I expected. Juvenile.

I researched your expert. No songwriting credits that I can find. Can you point me to them?

No ad hominem attack at all. Just some sense of humor ;-)

As I already wrote Ed is writing for theatre and musicals and serves as the musical director for shows in the US and UK (I guess you missed that part getting over the "hominem attack"). This is one of the musicals he directed: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/neil-simpson/merrie-hell-at-the-soho-t_b_2247288.html

He currently writes the music and lyrics for a new screenplay starring www.charissa.nyc

But hey, I really don't know what your issue is. He studied music for almost a decade now passing on what he learnt. We give away one session with him for FREE. No big deal. If you think you can't learn from him - stay away and don't enter the competition. Higher chances to win for the ones that actually keep an open mind to improve their songwriting.

So, he directed this:

And you cite a review that pans the play. No songs I could listen to though? grin

Yup, he was the musical director of that show. I didn't check the link as I really have more important things to do (like, umm, making music for example) but here is another one. Probably a bad review as well and probably with another funny picture of a funny play (that's weird that they have funny pics for funny shows - it's almost as strange as sad people at a funeral). http://annegretmarten.co.uk/merrie-hell-at-the-soho-theatre/

You can find plenty of songs online. Maybe ask one of your grandchildren how to use "Google" (this big Internet company you might have heard about).

You know what's the coolest part - he lives from that. Do you from this?

Anyhow, talking about Juvenile - calling a grown man 12 years old is very mature. Maybe I'm a bit childish, but that's okay, I'm also only 12 (was born in '87 - I guess that also makes me 12). It's less creepy to be a child in the body of a 12 year old than it is to be a juvenile high school bully in the body of a 80 year old lol.

Thanks for doing the competition. I am sure the winner will get a benefit out of it.

Thanks Kevin. I'm sure about that as well. And I actually have to thank 90dB. Since he started his rant on the post four more songwriters entered the competition. Guess others also see some value in it. By the way, the question that is answered wrong the most often is about the lyricist of "My Heart Will Go On". It's a tricky one, but you guys are more than welcome to check wikipedia before answering ;-)

Oh, Kevin, I just saw that - choose your next post wisely. It'll be your 10,000th post!
:-)

So - no songs, just a “musical director” credit for a drag queen play. Impressive.

As for any of his songs online, one would think they would come up, but......nothing. I do wish you would help me find his music, I want to be a believer!

“You know what's the coolest part - he lives from that. Do you from this?”

Actually; yes, I do.

I'm really interested in your “First Song Package” for $399. It was the “Free Song Evaluation by 50 independent music listeners in the US” that really piqued my interest.

"high school bully"? Awwww.... did the big bad boys bully wittle you? laugh

Raleigh, ya'll
90bd?

You flamed out here during a Pete Seeger Tribute Thread. I can post the link if you'd like? Your parting words, were, "See ya".

Songcat is doing something very cool here. Pity you can't appreciate it for what it is and find the positive.

The deadline was a few days ago and yesterday we went through all submissions to put forward the ones that answered all four questions right. Thank you all for participating - if you did, you should have received an email yesterday. The winner will be announced on Thursday in our newsletter.

I was a bit surprised that only 17% of all entries got all four questions right and the one question with the lowest rate of correct answers was the one asking who wrote the lyrics of "My Heart Will Go On". It's Will Jennings. Celine Dion sang it and James Horner composed and co-produced the song.

Just Plain Quotes
"A lot of people will tell you that preparation is what will make you successful. But I think that people misunderstand exactly what that means sometimes. The type of preparation you need most is the kind that allows you to instantly seize an opportunity, change your course based on a momentary circumstance, and grab hold of the totally unexpected when it happens, and allow it to take you for the ride of your life! That is the kind of preparation that can lead to the most enjoyable type of success." -Brian Austin Whitney
