My first car was a 1972 Buick Skylark 4 door with blue polka dot sheets as seat covers and a two tone rust as paint. It smelled like cat piss because the cats from the neighborhood liked to live in it. It was a real piece of ... (con't) Where Do Songs Come From?

Humm, I wish I knew. It was around early summer 1995 when i walked into my Sun Room for lack of another word. I walked right into a great idea for a song! Wow, I thought. So I quickly put pen, (pencil) to paper and started to write. But alas, no words would come. So after a short time I put the Song Title in my un finished song file and decided I would work on it later. However as the day wore on I began to get words for the song. And after some time I had finished the song! What was the song? It is Entitled: AROUND THE HORN. You can listen to on the Web Site under Ray's Music. http://www.geocities.ws/fiverosesmusicgroup/

I loved the description of that car, Paul, and enjoyed the blog article (and song). And Ray, that's a nice example of inspiration smacking you over the head. Good song. Thoughtful lyrics. Is that you singing? The bulk of my lyrics are made-up stories (though often with an autobiographical element), but occasionally I'll write one that's 100% real. Like this one. 'Insomnia' http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13221139I often suffer from insomnia, and on one particular night - at 3am - I felt compelled to write a lyric - maybe make the best of a bad situation. I sent it off to my musical collaborator in Scotland, and he (and the vocalist) took care of the rest. Donna

Hi Paul
If you are looking for a critique of your song here goes
The Chorus and the verse are too much alike,, this type of
punk song is very dated, if you kept the verse as you have it
and then jump into a modulation or another set of interesting
chords you could have something interesting as it is I couldnt
listen to it twice , I am quite a fan of Green Day, listen to
their stuff as far as your working methods advice or what we are
all different in that respect and what suit one person dont suit
another
One of the most important principles of songwriting is to remember that a good song is a partnership of many different components, all working together to produce a satisfying musical experience.
In that respect, song components are either enhancing or compromising their combined effects.

Thanks Cheyenne -- I hope it sounds like '94 or before that's when it was written and cut (or there abouts who remembers that far back) ... thanks. (hope you enjoyed the article more than the 20+ year old song used)
