EDITED
My muse doesn't exactly work overtime these days, but every now and then she tosses me a tidbit. Here's the latest, such as it is.
A FUN SUNDAY AFTERNOON © 2015 Greg C. Brown He was out for a drive with his wife and kids, Laughing at the funny things they said and did, Counting license plates and singing silly tunes, Was s’posed to be a fun Sunday afternoon. Should’ve been a fun Sunday afternoon. Waiting their turn in a gasoline line An unaware driver ran the eight-sided sign, He was lookin’ in the sky at a hot air balloon, It was on a fun Sunday afternoon. Supposed to’ve been a fun Sunday afternoon. CHORUS You won’t ever know when it happens, Buddy, get that in your mind. You can never plan for the day it comes So do not waste your time. Just live each day without thinking Of when your number might be called. ‘Cause sooner or later the reaper comes, The reaper comes to get us all. The car jumped the curb, then it hit the gas pump, Didn’t hit it hard, it was barely a thump. But when the fireball flashed it was clear they were doomed, Was s’posed to be a fun Sunday afternoon, Should’ve been a fun Sunday afternoon. 911 was dialed and the fire trucks came, Only took a minute to extinguish the flames. There was nothing left the fire didn’t consume, So much for a fun Sunday afternoon. Should’ve been a fun Sunday afternoon. BRIDGE You won’t know when And you won’t know how, But the designated hour, when it comes, Will then be now. CHORUS You won’t ever know when it happens, Buddy, get that in your mind. You can never plan for the day it comes So do not waste your time. Just live each day without thinking Of when your number might be called. ‘Cause sooner or later the reaper comes, The reaper comes to get us all.
Sooner or later the reaper comes, The reaper comes to get us all.

Hi Greg,
It's definitely a reminder of how fast things can change! Nice write! I think that you don't need the last two verses. They bring in an almost comical element that detracts, I think!

Nice tidbit from your muse. Counting license plates! Hmmm When I was a kid, I would go with my dad on his truck and count out-of-state plates. Thanks for the memories.

Hi Lisa!
You know, you may be right about those last two verses. It's funny, they were actually the first two I wrote before I had any idea where the song was headed. They are a little more flippant than the lyric overall is meant to be, so I very well may remove them. In my head tune, the song seemed a bit long anyway, so that gets addressed, too.
Thank you for taking a look at this and sharing your thoughts. I really appreciate it.

Interesting read Greg.
I was just thinking if it's possible to have the title in the chorus somewhere. Like how it'd be a fun sunday afternoon for the reaper when he comes to collect perhaps.
Thanks for the reminder, I've got to do get round to doing some stuff today!
