From the 50-90 Challenge. Simple tale about being let down. Is it too simple? (The bridge is intentionally negative, but I can always change that.) MALE vocals. I hear the music relatively uptempo. Don't want the mood to be dirge-like. *Might also suit FEMALE vocals. I'd make minor changes in the text. As usual, constructive critique welcome. *Tweaking's begun. I originally changed 'turned your back on me' to 'turned away from me', but I've changed it around again to the original. Other changes made as well. UPDATE 13.09: Going to go back to the drawing board on this one. Stay tuned. I Had Your Back V1 I melted inside On nights when you cried So afraid that you'd never get through ...Tried to drive those worries away You lips were so soft ...I could have sworn you would stay Chorus I had your back But you turned your back on me Didn't see in your face I'd soon be replaced I had your back But you turned your back on me V2 I wanted to help On nights when you felt You were drowning in deep shades of blue...Tried to keep those colours at bay Your words were so soft ...I could have sworn you would stay Chorus I had your back But you turned your back on me Didn't see in your face I'd soon be replaced I had your back But you turned your back on me Bridge Saw you together in a dim cafe You working the strings in the usual way I felt bad for the guy …He'd soon be unstrung by your lies ALTERNATIVE BRIDGE FOR FEMALE VOX Saw you together in a dim cafe You working the strings in the usual way I felt bad for the girl as I watched her eyes …She'd soon be unstrung by your lies Chorus I had your back But you turned your back on me Didn't see in your face I'd soon be replaced I had your back But you turned your back on me © 2015 Donna Devine

It is a simple lyric but there's nothing wrong with simple. Some songs are too complicated.
It all makes sense to me apart from the title. I've never heard that expression. I've heard "I had you back" but never "I've had your back".

Vic and Mike, a big thanks for your comments. Meanwhile, I've made a few changes. Mike, your suggestion about a bit of a change-up in the chorus got me thinking in a different direction. One reason I love the feedback forum. Meanwhile, I've made several adjustments to the lyric. Donna UPDATE 13.09: Still a lot of work needed on this one. Going to 'lock it' now, and do more revising.
