https://vimeo.com/135084725 [small video] https://soundcloud.com/lane1777/kate-short-version-final-v11-mp3Michael Zaneski helped me with this, His creativity is outstanding to me. He has always done a wonderful job with what I hand him and never disapointed Me. Thank you so much Mike the lyric is simple, and it is meant to be. a tribute to Kate Steinle and Family Kate v1 kate was a good man`s daughter that I never knew, till I saw Her on the evening news. v2 Kate will touch forever thats so true, I have sent this story on to you. chorus: Won`t you take a walk with me down on the pier...we can talk about whats new. Won`t you take a walk with me... here is my hand..it is such a short time.. till this day ends. v3 Kate was this beautiful woman I`m telling you,, and the story... broke my heart in two. chorus: Won`t you take a walk with me down on the pier...we can talk about whats new. Won`t you take a walk with me... here is my hand..it is such a short time.. till this day ends. bridge: a day in the sunlight, a brother`s love shining through.. Kate was taken from them.... far to soon. lyric / L. Vincent / music / Michael Zaneski © Copyright 2015 Vincent. All Rights Reserved. Kate touched lives in this world I am sure, touched so many with Her passing. And if Kate`s law is passed, Kate will touch lives far into the future. Lane

A stunning tribute to Kate, Lane:
Michael's contribution hurls your words skyward... into the Heavens where she is bound to reside. I'm impressed with the words, music and Michael's artistry. Nice work, gentlemen. I'm sure the Steinle family is proud of you and this magnificent gift. Kudos! ----Dave

A very haunting musical piece for sure. I love the starkness of the whole composition. It is beautifully written and arranged. I did think the vocal, while very good, was buried in the mix at times and could be brought up front a bit more. Also loved it when I assume Michael came in with the backing echo' vocals. Beautifully done. Though I love the starkness of this, in my head I hear very clean and crisp ambient volume swells coming in at places in a Mark Knpfler type style. I think it would add even more beauty to this song. Great job Lane and Michael.

My hats off to U both. Mr. Nelson, thank you so much for taking time to give this a listen. I tried to keep the lyric short and simple, and I never had any doubt about the production in this, Mike did terrific with that part of the song. Lane

Hi Lane.
I think you have a very cool production and unique song. This certainly is a beautiful tribute for sure. As a lay listener not knowing the circumstances of how/why she left us, I might like to have more story--vs. 3 IMO needs those first two lines to shed more info rather than be more "kind words." I love the last line of that 3rd vs. but would like those first two lines to be maybe more contrasting to evoke the drama. Just a thought, and no big deal, keep or sweep.
Nice job all involved here!

Dave Hi Dave, I can`t imagine what Michael had to do with this song. I sent him a couple of rough files, and He had the vision and creativity to build it around my voice. Everything musical in this is all Mike`s...He`s my Hero!...lol thank you so much Dave for getting in here and I always welcome any thoughts and opinions on My lyrics, it lets me see what I sometimes can`t..and make changes. Stunning in a sparse manner. A beautiful production that says "perfection is not when there is nothing left to add but rather when there is nothing left to take away."
I don't know the backstory but it it has to be one helluva tribute.
Wow.

steady-eddie. Thank you eddie for commenting, I always take the suggestions and put them up with the original write as a refferance. I can extend the write in the future, and it all helps it I do. Thanks again for stopping, Mike was so impressive with this song. Lane

Starkly beautiful production that sets off the simple lyric. I don't know that getting too much into the backstory could improve on this. It stands on its own for those that don't know about her, and it's a wonderful tribute for those that do. Well done.

Dave, I was going for a "heavenly" sound, it seemed appropriate. Thanks so much very listening and the nice comments. Vic, thanks for the nice comment. I was struck by Lane's original demo which was sang "free," without a beat, and thought "how perfect" since that gave it a kind of literal and figurative "timeless" kind of feel--so I simply took my cue from Lane's work, and built the orchestration around Lanes "freestyle" singing. Thanks again. Thanks Nelson. Yes, Lane's performance is outstanding here. It was the catalyst for the production, indeed. Todd, thank you for listening and for the nice comments. Hi Calvin, always great to hear from you. I'm glad you thought it beautiful. Thank you. Mr. Leblanc, Thank you thank you! Hi David, thanks so much for the nice comments and yes, I agree, I was fighting to keep the vocals atop the mix. Thanks Lisa, learning a little bit about Kate Steinle made the inspiration come easy. Lane was passionate about this project, and that too rubbed off on me. Thanks, Eddie! Thanks Bud, thanks Janice. Yes, I wanted it too be "sparse" so that nothing would distract from the words. I love your quote concerning subtractive arranging. I would never have thought of it that way. Hi Ricki, thanks. I went with my gut on this arrangement; it felt like classical strings and a big, Godlike guitar were all that was needed. I certainly wanted to avoid any idea of a rhythmic motif, as I wanted this to have a kind of static feel--I wanted the music to feel like a place that you could live in, not a narrative. Lane's original demo gave me all the ideas to flesh out his lyric. A quick shout out to Lane--thank you so much for trusting me when I said I heard it "just like your demo, only with classical strings and a big guitar." Also thanks for being so passionate about something worthy of that passion. Mike

I just listened again and Janice immediately recognized the theme from the news stories. Being a bit of a news junkie I'm embarrassed I didn't get it immediately. Understanding this makes it even more powerful.

Hi J AND B, I really didn`t want to get to much in a tribute, and Mike had the thought where this should go. I wanted to say something about this, I have three daughters and it could have been one of them. Mike took this and gave it sails.
Thanks again. to both of you. Lane
