a friend finished a song for me here, called Positive side of blue. the lyrics are thin but I didn`t want to go far from what the person told me. my friend Mike did a great job on the track. really you`d be listening to him, but that's ok with me.

I love the cool scat and all the lovely bits mixed in throughout the piece.
Sort of Bobbi Humphrey meets Herbie Hancock
Yes it’s long but it moves along at a great pace and it rocks from beginning to end.
Very Cool

Hi Latteta, You're on to something here..over the years I've enjoyed all kinds of electronica and jazz, including free jazz which gets my neighbors banging on the walls. The flute playing is great and so is the scat singing--the singing reminding me so much of Jeanne Lee who I saw perform a few times while I lived in NYC--mostly with a jazz flautist named Gunther Hampel. I think there are a lot of great ideas floating around in this. The main one being the fusion of these styles. Then the actual motifs you touch upon in this outting--my favorite being when the piano comes in around the seven minute mark. The only real nit here is you mixed everything waay too hot, and so there's lots of clipping and distortion. When mixing becomes "now this needs to be louder" which creates a domino effect of all the other things needing to be louder too..well..a too loud mix, like this can happen.. So my main suggestion to improving this is remix this making sure your loudest composited (everything playing together) moments are barely hitting 0db before even adding a compressor or limiter on your master. This will give an added bonus of giving the mix a bit of air as well. More of a three dimension feel. You should probably start with the drums, since they seem to want to be loudest. They are also what is mostly responsible for the clipping as well. Other than that, consider "shorter versions" of this piece that retain the coolest parts and move quicker between them..just perhaps as a contrast to the more spread out version you have here. The fusion of these musical styles excites my imagination. With a better mix, you really have something here. Mike

I don't wish to see Mike's butt on the dance floor or mine, dad dancing should be avoided along with the flu. Good music, I love jazz and all the offshoots from it too. Best of luck with your good work Travis

Hey Calvin,
thanks for stopping by and giving me feedback. I appreciate the complement. I'm using Presonus Studio One 2.0. In this song there are 40 + tracks. I recorded flute and vocals live and use the sounds and instruments provided in the program. All of the other instruments are recorded via keyboard (the controller).
I started this last April, stepped away and came back time after time. Each time I learned something new to help me in the process. There's so much to this method of recording... it can be overwhelming.
1982-1984, I played with a Cuban Son Band and when we performed, there was no song under 15 minutes. We took a lot of solos, but the main focus was on the audience. They came to dance. so, that's what I was trying for, giving folks more than the traditional 3-4 minute song. I wanted the music to take you somewhere groovy. I want the listeners to have a musical experience.
Thanks again for the feed back, greatly appreciated.

Trance, Tribal, Dance...Oh Yeah! Almost danced out of my chair! Great groove throughout. This would not work as a 3 minute song. Well done. Ricki

Michael, Thank you sooooo much for taking the time to listen and respond. Thank you for the compliments and your invaluable feedback. I have taken your advice and boy, oh boy... man oh man, what a task. Starting with the percussion, eliminating the compression, then continuing the process with every group and single tracks. Great news... Wow what a sound! Everything sound so much better, crisp. I couldn't believe it. Thanks so much man!! Here's the new and improved song: 'Can't Stop This' http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13134760 it's currently being offered as a free mp3 download.
