Gonna keep this short due to broken arm and hand, and typing one letter at a time. I have my web page through GoDaddy, but now been told free hosting is gone and being told I will be paying an additional 90 dollars a year, I wonder if for now I should just use free sites such as soundcloud, reverberation , to display my songs. Is there a limit on such sites to put songs on them? I may keep paying for domain name in the rare chance I start selling more songs but funds are low now... Any advice you guys can offer I will greatly appreciate . Thanks, Kim

Don't pay if you don't have to. I NEVER had a web page.....just use face book and youtube. I don't like Reverb Nation.

Hi Kim:
I've tried just about every option and few, if any are good as far as I'm concerned. It depends on your objective(s) with a "site" or "page." I use ShowCaseYourMusic.com but they are frequently "down" without warning or notification and sometimes they forget to pay their bills and the site is subject to "purchase" by some third party you never heard of or have no idea where they are located, such as Russia, China or Iran... LOL!
My partner and I had our own website for displaying our songs several years ago but we ran into hacking and PayPal issues, constant upkeep and song additions or changes... and it got to be a real hassle. We finally took it down and walked away, sadder but wiser.
Best of luck with your approach to this constant problem. Roy Cooper can probably give you some great advice 'cause he has as much or more experience in this area than most of us here.
Keep us posted when convenient.
Cheers,
Dave

For a more "professional" look I'd go with your own website but also keep up some of the hosting sites such as Soundcloud, etc. $90 per year sounds steep to me (especially if not used as your main source of income). Shop around for hosts - you can always transfer your URL to another host. You really don't need that much for hosting I'm guessing. An almost free option to keep your own URL is to just renew your URL without any website builder or hosting from Godaddy and then opt for one of those free website builders (one that won't spam your site with ads though). You will get a URL from them like www.kimberly.freewebhost.com (I just made up feewebhost.com - don't know if they exist, but if you do some research you'll find a bunch) but you can create a masked forward of your own URL to the free URL the website builder gives you. So people will type your address and end up on the free site you put up having your url in their address bar. Not sure if this makes any sense - if not, just pm me and I'll try to explain it a bit more in detail.

Here is a link to a short list -- make sure you check their regular prices because many of the listed prices are introductory ones: http://www.consumer-rankings.com/hosting/One thing to remember is that 40% of all web searches are via smart phone so you have to keep any design viewable via smart phone. There are websites that allow you to check out view ability. In my case I make sure the main webpage is partially viewable and I have another site that is purely set-up for smartphone viewing...............ps. yes you can design multi platform sites but they end up being very compromised......That said you can design a simple page that is viewable on a smart phone but will make the viewer do more work than they may wish to do.

The Web Site where my and my friends songs are was free and still is. We paid someone to set it up. I would look for someone local that does Web Sites. The Web Site is: http://www.geocities.ws/fiverosesmusicgroup/

I have two free websites on Wix. I created each page myself using templates they provide. In both cases, the songs are actually on Soundcloud but you can play them from the website by clicking on the embedded widget. I pay nothing for this, but there are ads for Wix on there but they are not very prominent and who cares? I also pay about $10 per year for domain names through Godaddy and point them at the Wix websites (set up on Godaddy). http://colinwardmusic.com/http://roseislandband.com/Bear in mind that nobody will look at them unless you figure out how to send people there. No websites are self-marketing! Reverbnation, Soundcloud, Soundclick, YouTube, etc. all work and you will get friend/fan requests on Reverbnation, but they are all from musicians trying to promote their own music, not look at yours.

I found Reverb Nation to be confusing and left it. I've had my own site since 2004. Jim Colyer http://www.jimcolyer.com
