if I didnt know better, id think the whole thing was for ratings, which the show is dropping like mad.

I didnt see it live as i find the show almost unwatchable now.I saw it in clips.

But this kid, he thinks like he's Jesus or something. Harry Connick smacked him around a bit, but i find the audience applauding the kid kind of disturbing. Right takes a back seat to might, once again.

seems like he's another Kanye west, but once the show is over, he might be doing Jimmy Hendrix cover shows!

Whole thing for ratings. YA THINK? Of course it's all for ratings. These shows are highly edited and highly controlled. Most of the artists are picked from "fast track auditions" , not standing in line all day.

But the attitude of the artist, which is totally ego centric, rude and classless, is the current state of ALL ARTISTS. These younger ones coming up have no sense of humility. They all feel entitled. They all think the world just HAS TO HEAR THEIR OPINIONS.

And it is a factor I talk about continually in my comments on the industry. 90% of an artist/writers wounds are SELF INFLICTED. And they are judged 85% OFF THE FIELD, away from writing, recording, performing. It is off stage behavior, networking, how they deal with people. This guy mouths off and sinks his entire career. He's dead but just doesn't know it.

And you see many things that underline what is WRONG with so much in modern music. He does a Lenny Kravitz song, AND LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE LENNY KRAVITZ. WE ALREADY GOT ONE OF THOSE!!!! Then he displays exactly what gets the 'Justin Bieber's of the world into so much trouble, and cuts his own throat before he even realizes it. The only thing I missed with him was that he didn't have a cell phone he was texting on while Harry Connick talked to him.

And you are right. The audience (usually made up of half a dozen friends and family members) reaction is what encourages it. he will have his fifteen seconds of fame and then will become a trivia question. But we are talking about it today.

I don't know if I'd look for him doing any Hendrix covers. But he does have a future in Rap and hip hop. They embrace that attitude.

Sure, he's insulting the people that put his "best friend" in the bottom. Without the audience there's no show, and they sit there and applaud his backtracking. I mean the audience themselves are mostly morons, but he;s insulting everyone at home who might be watching.

It's too much like Kanye West for me to think it's anytiunng but a copy cat thing, and when he sees kanye not seeing much for it, he figures it's a good thing, it does bring his name into the conversation.

Somebody needs to step in and say hey dude, you are a moron, just like your hero Kanye West, your off the show, and if anybody tries this again, they will be off too.

We could only hope. But controversy brings ratings. THE VOICE is eating AI's lunch, their "winner's tours' are being cancelled in the middle of them and none of their stars are doing a lot outside of a very few of the early one's like Carrie Underwood.
Kind of watching the Titanic sinking here. I hate it because Keith Urban is actually a friend of mine, but I'd say the same thing to him. Time to wind this one down. They've had a good run, time to get out with some dignity.

they had a great run with 3 or 4 years of great characters and artists, then it got really boring.

I dont see all the hoopla about singing shows, when autotune can make up for any audible difference between the best singer in the world and a really good singer.

I think that's why idols dont sell, singing doesnt matter, people dont buy music(When the actually bought music) simply because somebody is a great singer.

Harry and JLO make the show unwatchable.

They applaud the terrible performances if it's done by one of their favourites.

Maybe the judges saw what happened in New Zealands X Factor a month a go and decided they could get attention if they attack a contestant.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dntP9-AJLEQ

I didn't see it as someone biting the hand that feeds them. I see it as someone upset their friend is going home.

And of course it gets blown totally out of proportion.

It's all for the show. Now people, media, etc. talks about this and that sparkles a bit of interest once again. Expect the the viewer numbers to go up for the next show. But honestly, nothing, or let's say very little is actually real in those shows.
I was lucky enough to have been involved with some artists who were in the show in a European country and gained some insights, met some of the executives and saw a bit what's going on backstage. I can't speak for the US, but at least over here EVERYTHING is planned out. The "casting" you see on TV is not really the casting. There is a casting before the casting. None of the judges are sitting there, it's the show's production company deciding who could entertain in the "castings" that will be aired. So they pass a few very talented singers and a whole bunch of people that like making a fool out of themselves. There was this one guy, he came to every "casting" (the one that you can actually see on TV) each year but he simply sucked. He sucked so bad that it was entertaining to most people. After many years he revealed that they actually paid him to come back each year as he was in demand. They had merchandising of this guy, he gave concerts, but never made into the live shows because he was just a clown to entertain. He really well paid clown though.
They reherse each show, every aspect of it. Where to go, what to say, "cry now", "laugh like that", "turn your head this way when we announce that you're out" and so on. I think it is, well was (getting boring now as it's always the same kind of) a great show, but it was just that - a SHOW. It wasn't about finding talented singers or musicians, it was about entertaining million of people in front of their TVs to sell advertising spots at a higher rate and to beat the competition for viewer numbers.
And the "act" talked about in this thread is nothing else but entertainment.

Not all "ringers" brought in (and/or suggested) are put on the show either. I know from first hand experience. Brian can also attest to it...

Not so much "ringers' but they do cast and bring more in through fast track auditions than ever go through the cattle call. I had two artists on the Voice this season and have dealt with several in previous years both on the voice and American Idol. One, Megan Lindsey, is still on there as of last night. Both were contacted by the Voice, both were flown multiple times to Los Angeles (with around 100 others and their families) and both are pretty well scripted as to what the arc of the show is going to be.

The shows still depend on fan involvement and their performances, but getting them there is much more highly controlled than they ever let on publicly.
