Quite a story.
A pity he reaped the benefits so late in his life, but better than not at all.

I always heard that Yesterday was the most recorded song in history.

It actually is. I don't really know how this qualifies. It probably has been recorded by many people, although I doubt it has been recorded by anywhere near as many notable people. YESTERDAY, SOMETHING, and IMAGINE are all among the most recorded highest earning songs in history.
I don't know what standard they are holding this song but it is NO WHERE NEAR what those other songs are. It has been recorded a lot, and featured in some movies, television etc. But I tend to think this is some press release feature. I'm pretty doubtful on the validity of this entire article.

My guess is that something spiritual and public domain, like "Amazing Grace" would be the most recorded song in history... just not commercially tracked.

I think the RIAA compiles listings of that. You might be right, yet all things are not registered. I would think this would only be for commercially recorded works.

Makes sense. Yesterday is a wonderful song...
But Amazing Grace on the bagpipes is hard to beat!

Micheal,
You are right. It is a wonderful song. But due to the nature of the copyright, it being public domain, there is probably not one person that it can be attributed to. So that would probably determine the commercial viability of that. And have something recorded for commercial use, even if it were a Christian song, would be the mark of songs in this case.

The dirty lyrics were a lot better than the clean ones.

I think they convened a Congressional committee to determine WHAT the dirty words even were, and came to the conclusion that NO ONE seemed to be able to figure out anything, dirty or otherwise. Just kind of one of those drunk songs that get out there. A "Red Solo cup" of it's day. LOL!

The first song I learned on one string. Drove the folks nuts. I doubt that it is the most recorded. My money is on Yesterday. But I think White Christmas is up there

Yesterday is one of those timeless songs... and what a great melody! I still remember the first time I heard it (and I'm certainly not of the generation for whom it was written).
