My girl friend gave me their album for Christmas of 1969. I liked the song called "Guinnevere."

i watched the first song,if it rains tomorrow evening like they say,i will watch it all.I'm a big fan of CS&N and CSN&Y!I read yesterday that David Crosby hit a jogger in the wine valley,he said he was blinded by the sun.Jogger had some broken bones but survived.

yes. I saw Nash in a small venue a month or so and he was great. Crosby is coming to the same venue solo in June so I hope to catch him too. Not the same as seeing them together but much more intimate.

Definitely one of my all time favourites, especially with "Y".

4 Way Street was my favourite because it was live and had some great jams on it, but man Crosby, Stills, Nash and Deja Vu were truly remarkable. I think the others definitely had good songs, but overall, CSN and what followed were not as awesome as their early stuff. Also really liked Buffalo Springfield, The Hollies and The Byrds ...so I guess I was consistent smile

Thanks Colin, for that link. I see there are other really good concerts to choose from there as well.

I won free tickets to see them a couple years ago. (Free made it extra nice LOL). I think Stephen Stills must have been fighting a cold or allergies because it sounded like he was struggling to hit his notes. David Crosby, on the other hand, was an absolute thrilling surprise. His voice was strong, clear and very powerful. Nash was on top of his game, too. It was a fun night over all.

CS&N...Yes...One of the first(and still the best) "Super Groups"!!!!

CSN&Y...The first album I ever shoplifted was "Four Way Street" because I just HAD to have it!...And I was 15 and there was a girl who wanted it:-)

I guess that shoplifting was perhaps an early version of illegally downloading?

Mea culpa... I only did it once...

Loved Neil Young's line on one of the intros..."it starts out slow then kinda fizzles out all together"

Definitely a classic live album.

Ya got good taste Midnite smile

yeah I'm a fan. I liked Crosby and Neil Young's songs the best. Their harmonies might have been the best harmonies ever, they werent just adding depth and fullness, they were arranging the harmonies as a part of the song.

They are all incredibly talented guys, but it's shame how they have embarrassed themselves over the years.

All part of the hippie age they grew up in, it's not translating in this age.

Crosbys page 43...and Delta, two of my favorites

I know this post is a little old but I just saw it (I'm new here).

I watched some of this video already, and, wow, does it bring back memories. I cut my 'harmony teeth' singing along with these guys as a kid.

Guinevere is a masterpiece in my book! I love their songs with alternate tunings (Suite Judy Blue Eyes!). So many great songs; anyway, thanks for sharing this link.

If it has strings I will find a way to play it!

If you AREN'T there's something WRONG with you! I got to play the second stage at their concert in Cincy 2 years ago. I've seen them several times over the years, and thought they sounded better than EVER this time around. Added bonus , they kept their "lefty" political soap box to a minimum this time around too!

Neil Young's OHIO was a song that changed the times. It was written and put out about 3 days after Kent State. Nothing like that could happen today and I just can't get enough of that song even today. B

The album I owned from CSN was Daylight Again.
Looking at the liner notes I noticed that Art Garfunkel took David Crosby's place through much of the sessions.
Even though David Crosby sung on the ballad Delta, which should have been a top 40 hit.

Woodstock was written by Joanie Mitchell, and the amazing part was she wasn't even there. All these other artists were there and couldn't write that. Stills guitar work is great on that track. If your a Trump supporter, I'm neutral, but if you support him, Crosby Stills Nash and Young will irritate the hell out of you. Neil young wouldn't let him use rocking in the free world....

For me, barring the candidate being an outright nazi, or nationalist, or murderous dictator, I'd let them use my music. Could be a lot worse, you could be destin d to hang around in sound click your whole career, with nobody hearing your music. What an amazingly talented group of four guys though

I never based who I like on political affiliation. Although political evangalists can get as tiresome as religious ones. Daylight Again was my first dose of CSN. Art Garfunkel seved as David Crosby's substitute throughout that as I saw in the credits. Even though David Crosby was present for the ballad Delta. Many of these acts were quite different in the eighties then their seventies heydey.
I never quite got the association with politics. Whether it is from the left or the right, citizens are screwed if that falls too much in to one direction. Both political parties are in to the establishment, which arguably might be worse then one extreme.

I think it comes from folk music, Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Dylan, and later some 60's Rock I agree just because you can play guitar and sing well, why the hell do you think you know anything beyond that? Or anything more than anyone else. I don't get it either

All the best songwriters and artists tend to be left wingers. And it's almost like they seduce yiu with their music, to try to tell a bigger story. Could be a subtle type of brainwashing.

Nowadays I listen to music, and I take out of it whatever I want to. If I don't agree about an issue, or don't ant to hear it in a song, I focus on what I like about the song instead, serves me well

Art is a reflection of culture and civilization and the times...so it is not atall surprising there are "protest songs". But just because there are protest songs, that does not mean it is a pervasive thing

Ran across this one a while back by Steve Earle. Real sucker punch.

I primarily like Neil Young who is one of my favorite songwriters. The way he crosses genres throughout his career is reflective of someone really doing their own thing. Not chasing the latest trend. The ultra-acoustic based songs, the country music, the folk music, the punk music.

He and Crazy Horse for instance are so raw live. I really like the way he just digs into his guitar solos so raw, yet so perfectly fit into the song. Some people call it just basic few chord songs or basic guitar playing. It can come across that way, but it is really about the feel.

Neil Young is such an awesome lyricist and comes up with equally awesome melodies. And of course the CSNY harmonies are immediately recognizable.

All those guys came out of the sixties which is such a fascinating period musically. Roots like Woodstock and then still had great albums and hits many years latter.

Neil is a fantastic acoustic guitar player, and one of the best "bad" lead guitarists ever.

His songwriting never seems to make a lot of sense, he jumps around on ideas, and sometimes his songs seem disconnected. But he is one of my favorite writers.

His range as a writer is shown in a song like this, which if you didn't know Neil wrote it, you'd never guess he did

Yes one of the best "bad" lead guitarists ever is a great way to put it!

Honestly, one of the things I appreciate most about his lyric writing is the fact that he often writes ambiguous lyrics. I can forever listen to Powderfinger for instance, and never figure out what the song is about!

It may be "technically" wrong to setup a story line in a song and then not provide an answer or resolution. But to be left wondering what the song is really saying is a pretty cool experience.

I was never into Neil's electric experiment. I did like some of the songs from that era, though.

On acoustic and vocals, he has that "thing" that can hold a room's attention. He was definitely a good songwriter.

Honestly, I like him the most as the fourth member of CSNY. What an amazing group. Even their 'filler' tunes are good because their harmonies are so killer.

Peace,
TC

If it has strings I will find a way to play it!

Just Plain Quotes
"A lot of people will tell you that preparation is what will make you successful. But I think that people misunderstand exactly what that means sometimes. The type of preparation you need most is the kind that allows you to instantly seize an opportunity, change your course based on a momentary circumstance, and grab hold of the totally unexpected when it happens, and allow it to take you for the ride of your life! That is the kind of preparation that can lead to the most enjoyable type of success." -Brian Austin Whitney
