Heard an old song of mine in a safeway store tonight, from a record I did in the nineties.......I thought "where have I heard that before"......stood and listened a minute....and I'll be damned.
really odd feeling, it's happened once before.....in a target, if I remember correctly.

Hi Mac:
I understand your feeling of surprise... but after the initial shock, it must be a pretty darn good feeling to know folks are hearing your work. Then there is always the hope that this knowledge will lead to some income as the "plays" work their way thru the system and back to your PRO or publisher.
Congratulations... and a Happy 2015.

hah, thanks everyone.....but that song died as a single years ago, I think the last payment I saw from BMI was a laughable five bucks or something....from that tune anyway.

If Musak redid your song, you should be receiving income from it, especially if you personally heard the song in two different retailers over many years apart. I would contact your PRO and ask how you can get copies of their playlists and also review the documentation which allowed them to use that song without any income getting back to you.
I would also contact your publisher with the same info and questions. The Harry Fox agency would be another in that I believe they may still play a role in licensing songs for digital only airplay, though I admit I am unclear of how that would work these days with an all digital service like Musak. They are a unique entity which may well have unique circumstances, as a closed paid service who remakes all that music for their exclusive use.
Bottom line, you should have money coming to you and I strongly suggest you follow through and then share those answers with the rest of us for future reference.

Brian, just saw your response. It wasn't reworked, it was my version...I just call any piped music "muzak"....sorry for the confusion.
