Hey guys, Working out some kinks on some songs. This is one that NellyRene' wrote and I produced. I did all the music except for the awesome guitar work. I'd like some opinions on production, not so much song content....I didn't write it...lol. Thanks again https://soundcloud.com/digibiu/for-love-nellyrenee

Hey, David...
The production is pretty darn good. Drums rock. Bass is knowledgeable and solid. Your singer has a great voice! If it were me, I might have edited the lyrics a bit and tried to not put voice and lead guitar in the same atmosphere. If I understand your bridge correctly, I might have skinned down to voice only, then pumped back up as it comes back in to the verse. But the overall sound was really good. KUTGW (keep up the good work)!

Great rocker. In totality I like the mix but like Michael there's something about the drums that are not distracting just different. Dunno - perhaps different is good. Not timing just what's happening and when. I'm a work in progress when it comes to working with mixing drums so I'll leave further analysis to the more knowledgeable
Strong song!

David,
This is interesting. Not many metal productions happen by this way...
This will all be one of those "IMO" things...
The opening is very dynamic. But, a lot gets "lost". Very cool bass line going on. Killer lead to go along with it. But the lead gets buried - so you miss a lot of the brilliance of it. I think a lot of that is due to the fact that everything seems right down the middle. The bass, naturally... and tendency is to have a lead centered - but here they are fighting each other. My guess is that panning the lead to the side a bit would allow it to stand out more - and also allow the drums to find their place...
I wanted Nellie's vocal to sound like Ann Wilson. That might not be fair, but, again, expected. Cleaner with more of an "echo reverb" - that "big female rock" vocal sound. She has the voice for it. I think the frequencies are getting muddled up with the bass.
The harmony (which is quite nice!) seems too close (panning) to the main vocal. If it had some space it would enhance the vocal more (meaning panned to one side - maybe 30-35%)
During the bridge (? - not sure that is what it is - I would tell you the lyric there, but I can't tell what the words are) - I would think you might want to pull the bass way down - or have it play something a lot simpler - to provide the dynamic you are looking for there.
Again towards the end I notice the amazing lead playing - but it is buried in the mix.
There is a lot here that is very impressive. Your singer has some chops! Your musicians, too (obviously!). They need their space. A lot of it is simply panning and eq. (And finding that Heart reverb).
