Jes' a for-the-record thing; it is done and it is recorded, and I'm just happy to be free of it. I was trying to describe the country death metal song "Angel in Chains," and found myself saying, "Well, it's not like that 'Gormenghast and the Naked Psycho Unicorns' stuff." And then realized "Gormenghast and the Naked Psycho Unicorns" wasn't a bad title. So it got a song to go with it. Here's the link: http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=12813776Lyrics follow as usual. Thanks, everybody. Joe [4/4, with strong beat] GORMENGHAST AND THE NAKED PSYCHO UNICORNS (2014) --J. Wrabek 1. They’re revolting at the palace, they don’t care if there’s a prize, They cut the faces out of the picture books ‘cause they didn’t like the eyes; The Arctic ocean’s rising, the seawall wasn’t built, And the train’s still on the siding ‘cause the engineer was killed. CHORUS: Gormenghast, you were so pretty when the world was young and flat, But the samovars of change were brewing—you weren’t expecting that; And now your gaudy chimps have chewed apart your trampoline, And the naked psycho unicorns won’t bring you back to me. 2. The owls up in the tower aren’t delivering the mail; The library’s on fire, the textbooks are in jail; Your old guitar is lying broke in pieces on the floor— It used to make ‘em laugh, but they don’t want that any more. CHORUS: Gormenghast, you were so pretty when the world was young and flat, But the samovars of change were brewing—you weren’t expecting that; And now your gaudy chimps have chewed apart your trampoline, And the naked psycho unicorns won’t bring you back to me. INSTRUMENTAL BREAK (CHORUS CHORDS) 3. Outside, the world’s on fire, the animals in flight; There’s no walls and there’s no servants, and the fish ain’t tasting right; The beggars on your doorstep are still asking what to do— They were looking for a leader, and you said it wasn’t you. CHORUS: Gormenghast, you were so pretty when the world was young and flat, But the samovars of change were brewing—you weren’t expecting that; And now your gaudy chimps have chewed apart your trampoline, And the naked psycho unicorns won’t bring you back to me. BRIDGE (CHORUS CHORDS): They’ll be fighting for succession, while the roof is caving in; You never knew the outside world, and now you never can; No point in your recanting, while the waters rise below— All you had to give was memories, and no one’s needing those. CHORUS: Gormenghast, you were so pretty when the world was young and flat, But the samovars of change were brewing—you weren’t expecting that; And now your gaudy chimps have chewed apart your trampoline, And the naked psycho unicorns won’t bring you back to me. © 2014 J. Hi Joe,
This is HILARIOUS -- very entertaining! I've never read the Gormenghast series, but maybe I should!

It takes a fertile imagination to create the unique songs from the massive mind of Wrabek. He can cause me to chuckle until my ribcage hurts. How in Heaven's name do you come up with these things, Joe? Enjoyed.

Dave, you've got to watch out for those fertile imaginations. Sometimes they can produce the mental equivalent of crabgrass, and it's hard to get rid of.<g>
The song really happened by mistake; I'd come out with the line about "Gormenghast and the Naked Psycho Unicorns," and it just had to have a song to go with it, so it got one. Lisa, not all the imagery is from the Gormenghast books--it just feels like it. The Gormenghast trilogy may be comparatively boring; I don't think there are any psycho unicorns, naked or otherwise.

Thanks, David. I've been asked when I'm going to perform this in public, and I just don't know. I can't think of a venue that would like it.
