Still plugging away at my batch from last year. Haven't even created a file for this years as of yet. Now that I have a full-time job I don't have much time to post these days. There are other issues oriented blogs I am on more than I am here, but still have an interest in writing even if I don't create as much new stuff right now.
HOW TO FIND A RAINBOW
c2013 Brian Beecher
Mixing with people in your friendship circle Doesn’t always turn out like it should And they might tell you they don’t really mean to hurt you But that they would help you if they could
Well they may try to get a new gig going And ignore some hard realities Lately most of us have seen a colder wind blowing One that won’t let us do as we please
And it would be lovely if the storm clouds were to pass But we have said it time and time again
And I wonder how to find a rainbow Here in this unforgiving world somehow How long do we need to feel like we are gonna fall Are we too far gone for us to turn back now
Most of us are not known to be lazy But may experience some lethargy In response to dealing with a world that has gone crazy Wondering if we ever will be free
Can’t seem to move through duties without straining ourselves Will we wait until the bitter end
And I wonder how to find a rainbow Here in this unforgiving world somehow How long do we need to feel like we are gonna fall Are we too far gone for us to turn back now
And it would be lovely if the storm clouds were to pass But we have said it time and time again
And I wonder how to find a rainbow Here in this unforgiving world somehow How long do we need to feel like we are gonna fall Are we too far gone for us to turn back now

Hi Brian.
I like the title a lot.
I like the chorus, but the 3rd line seems odd. When I think of people viewing/longing for rainbows, I think of someone stuck on the ground, wishing they could go higher/find something better. Something along the line of 'how long must I keep searching'.
The 'rainbow' is a great metaphor for things that are good in the world, that sometimes come after a period of darkness/struggle/strife.
A very good line... Lately most of us have seen a colder wind blowing would be better with 'felt' instead of 'seen'.
On the verses, there is a mix of powerful emotional phrases like... a world that has gone crazy Wondering if we ever will be free
but other lines seem academic 'In response to dealing with' or semi-interesting but not worth singing about 'Mixing with people in your friendship circle'
whatever the event is that inspires you to write a song, it does not tie you to every aspect of that event. You can spice it up, exaggerate, go totally off topic, pile metaphors on top of it, or what ever you want. If you want, you can leave clues in the lyrics so that the astute listener may wonder if the 'pit of vipers/den of wolves/congress of baboons/flock of sheep/school of piranha/3 ring circus/whores at a film screening' is really about a friendship circle.
Anyway, I did like the lyrics, and feel free to ignore any and all of this as you wish.
