TWO KINDS OF COUPLES © 2014 Mike Parrish
Verse 1 I called my Granddad, got him up out of bed And I cried to him there on the phone I said my wife and I fight most every night He said, "Come on up and see us at home." Ma and Pa were sitting there, in their rocking chairs And they were sharing a vanilla cone Still love in their eyes, at seventy-five So I asked Pa where I’d gone wrong
(Chorus 1) He said “There are only two kinds of couples So son you have to make a choice You’ve got the kind with the wife in charge The other kind is getting a divorce There are only two kinds of couples I chose rocking with Mama on the porch” Then he asked his wife, "Did I say that right?" Her simple answer was, "Of course"
Verse 2 The decision was clear, now we’ve been married for years And we’ve got a bunch of grand kids of our own But just the other night I awoke with a fright To the sound of a ringing phone Sat up in bed, put the phone to my head I heard my grandson say in a moan “My wife and I fight most every night” I said, "Come on up and see us at home."
(Chorus) I said “There are only two kinds of couples So son you have to make a choice You’ve got the kind with the wife in charge The other kind is getting a divorce There are only two kinds of couples So I chose rocking with Ma on the porch” Then I asked my wife, "Did I say that right?" Her simple answer was, "Of course"
Bridge The message for men is repeated again And the world keeps spinning along

As my wife keeps telling me," a man's place is in the wrong" A good lyric Mike which would make a good song for the right audience Travis

Hi Mike,
This is cute!
I'd like to see a little twist where we secretly find out he's in charge, but his wife doesn't know it!
Also, the "woke up with a fright" line made it sound a little too comical. I think I'd tone down that rhyme!

Thanks for looking Lisa - that Fright line bothers me too - I'll work on it - but my wife said no to the other change.

A good "life cycle" song and the kind that could be an album cut in Nashville. I made my choice. I've been divorced 29 years.
