Mike had surgery last night to fuse two discs in his neck, (5th and 6th I believe), in hopes of relieving pain and other major symptoms. Not sure what place he is in, as I have been extremely busy with 4 weekly deadline shows to edit, and family issues of the watching and doing-things-for kind, for grandkids and a near dying mom.
I have been in contact with a mutual friend where he lives about his status. He says Mike is ok and will get better. The surgery went well. Of course there is pain and stuff to deal with as usual while taking meds and after getting cut and bones worked on.

I know by now Mike feels like a human pin-cushion. I pray that this was a correct diagnosis and procedure for him... and that he will finally receive relief from this malady of constant dizziness. Get well Mike and let us hear from you whenever it becomes possible.
All my best,
Dave

Wow, something was actually done! Man I hope this brings him back to mobility. That guy has suffered so much without ever getting an answer why, and endured so much physical and psychological pain from it. Here's to you, Mike! I hope this does the trick!

Mike read all your posts and sends his huge thanks and love.
He said he has to remember his password again to be able to get back on here to respond. Mike is slowly but surely recovering from the incision and the fusion. I imagine both are painful, and slow to heal, especially the fusion, as with any bones messed with. Tough to get nutrients and healing blood to those areas.
Mike has an appointment on the 12th of March with a recommended Neurologist in NYC, (yet another of many who we hope this one will spend more needed time and to keep thinking about what else could be going on). He is going to demand a team be put together, of various specialties, to get to the bottom of things once and for all.
If this next TRY doesn't get good results for his other symptoms, he knows a trip to the Mayo Clinic will be needed as maybe a last ditch effort of being put through the ringer even more than he has been. Some tests of the vestibular kind can bring on increased symptoms. That has to be something for which anyone could find just as bad as the day to day symptoms. That trip would HAVE to result in something more to go on, if being put through even more abuse.
Being unstable, weak, dizzy, (with head surges), and add on emotional issues from all of his conditions and circumstances of being alone a lot of the time, Mike needs to keep positive, despite it all. For we know how our mental state can determine what chemicals are released by "us", via our brains. (Us), for this earthly part of us anyway. It's either our left frontal cortex, or the amygdala that is at work. One or the other, and much depends on HOW and WHAT we think! NO matter what is happening to us, in any form. It's just how our brain works, heart and all even! Right in our 3 pound mush of water, carbs, neurons and electricity! Water AND electricity? No wonder we are all so wired! We're always being tazzared by our own self's!
So, thank you all for helping with that end of things though your caring posts that Mike knows is given with the most sincere love. That is essential for anyone, to be loved. If not in his physical life so far, (as with a women as he once had and wished for recently), at least he has all of your love to feel and treasure. That is very cool of you all! Or Warm, actually.
Mike also received some of my tough-love suggestions. For when someone is really down on things and the prospects of the future is not looking good, a downward spiral can occur more than before even. I think people need both gentle love messages and the real deal as how to try to deal with things when being very down. The combination, I feel, is what anyone of us can use from time to time. Negative conditions don't need negative thoughts and actions. It does fine on it's own. What we need then is to create counter thoughts and action that are to be positive, (no matter what we're going through), to not "control" emotion or pain, (for we have to let it happen as it is for any of us), but to "transmute" that emotion to be dealt with right after each bout, if that makes sense. I know how to do that for me, when I went through some heavy stuff 34 years ago, but it's hard to describe that process.
It's like forcing to turn on a good switch for our own long term good thinking patterns. (Regardless of what is going on, or what has been done due to health or others, or whatever!). And to turn that good switch on especially right after being beat up by the results of a bad switch that always tries to be on, (bouts of even worse emotional outbursts than what we may be thinking and feeling from hour to hour, day to day, etc).
The one-two punch of different, yet same end goal messages is what is needed in such a desperate time, for anyone.
Some will turn to the spiritual enlightenment of their God, or some will claim to feel THEE God. GREAT! Whatever gets our brains to produce positive chems rather than harmful ones that comes from any Fear-based feelings is the solution to feeling better, DESPITE! It's either Love OR Fear. No other concept is needed to house all the emotions and feelings from thoughts, conscience or sub-conscience. It's all in BOTH! Mike and others going though heavy stuff, or anyone I guess, needs to choose Love over Fear. Some won't think that is possible, for it seems way too easy to just choose for our thoughts to be of Love, (which brings Calm and Security), when faced with seemingly impossible odds to deal with Fear based feelings: Extreme Lack feelings. Sad feelings. Anger feelings. Guilt feelings. Longing for love feelings that spill over to being irrational. Etc, etc, are all Fear based. What counters that? YOU got it! Can we choose Love based feelings over Fear based feelings even when alone? SURE we can! I know plenty of people who have done that, and I am sure we all have seen Vets with blown off legs and such who dealt with their lacks and all fear based thoughts and feelings to be people who are looked up to, for how they carry on.
Mike needs your love to help him feel love. Once he feels love enough, he will want more and more of those resulting feelings. Then, in time and his right choosing, he too will be helping others deal with their even worse issues, I know it! Mike is That strong and king of a person. He just needs to think and act like it now. Keep helping him on his way to better thinking and feeling days, DESPITE any condition or results of the docs or his love life. He has to KNOW and FEEL "we're all in this together" WITH him! There is no other way to deal with things than with total Love, (having a calm and secure mindset), no matter what medical or love needs are happening or not happening.
So, again, thank you all for adding Love to Mike's life. Reach out personally if possible too.
Great to be a part of this great site, so thank you Brian!
Johnny D

Heh! No dis to Mark, but I just happen to know the best burger in Rochester, Mike. It's at a place downtown called Newt's. As good if not better than 5 Guys! Also, I happen to know an excellent mastering guy in Minneapolis...although if you are at Mayo I doubt you will need mastering (that kind, anyway)! But yeah, if you go that route, let us know. I will help you as much as I can, Mike. In the meantime, don't let anyone put you in the tornado chair again.

HI GANG, Im so so sorry for responding so late, Twice in the hospital this month alone a slew of tests BS and insurance problems ya know the works. Sleep Apnea and carzy anxiety depression stress. And of yes course!! Health and pain alone would not do that to me.. just one year past the past divorce and THEY shredded me and my huge heart to pieces out there like you wouldn't believe. Thanks John for posting and all this. The surgery was a success and it has seemed to stop the head surges zaps concussive like blows I have been getting for 4 years now. The pain throughout my back is RIDICULOUS still. Day & night 10 years. Hopefully the surgery will help the neck pain at least when it heals. The 17 year vertigo disequillbrium problem is what I went today in NYC for. Too see my 6th balance disorder specialist and 78th doctor overall. She was wonderful. ordered a few tests I had been demanding of from others who would not cooperate with me. I was hoping the vertigo balance issues came from the neck. Its worth the shot. Back to ear testings this month. Lets see whats next. Haven't been near my music.. just cant find the heart and mind for it. But I will. Its impossible for me not to as it is to be miserable. No matter what. I still believe that LOVE is the answer to EVERYTHING in this life. God bless yous thank you Brian and all you guys. Love yous! Michael

Mike:
It's good to see you posting again. I hope this latest procedure brings you relief from some of your complications. Love and hope are two of the elements that keep the fabric of life woven together. Pain certainly brings out the importance of these two elements.
I'm hoping this latest Doctor will help you find your way out of this mountain of medical maladies. Always know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
I also hope the conditions on Staten Island have improved and that life is beginning to return to normal there.
Your ordeal is a source of inspiration to us because of how you have managed to handle it. Please keep us posted about your progress when you feel up to it.
All my best wishes,
Dave

Hi Mike, I'm sorry I'm so late to see this, I've been MIA for a while. I wrote and wrote for about 2.5 years and just got up one day and quit! I mean I quit for over a year. Anyway, I'm back and VERY concerned about you. You're in my prayers every night I think of you, which has been a lot so...I sure hope that surgery helps with the dizziness. I believe that's what you find the most disabling. I'll be checking in even if it's just to see how you're doing. Dottie

Haven't been on here for years. Haven't written anything in a couple of years. Retired in November and thinking about songwriting again. Periodically I have thought about you Mike and your horrible vertigo. I was diagnosed with it about two years ago and have a couple of bouts with it a year but they only last a few days. I hope your surgery is helping. My doctor told me next time I have another to show up at his office and he can maneuver my neck/head in such a way to stop the vertigo. He also has vertigo and is able to do the same maneuver on himself and he says it works. We'll see. Good luck to you and hope you are feeling much better soon.

Hi Nice to see you again, yes that maneuver is to move the crystals in your middle ear. Thats what causes 90% of peoples vertigo attacks that come BAD and go away for years sometimes never again. Mine is steady everyday everynight from the smallest tips or unsteady gait or inability to sit up, all the way to not being able to rise up for 2 to 6 hours. Pain is present constantly as well. They put me on water pills as they did find fluid in my left ear. I knew something was wrong with it, but not 17 years ago or 4 years ago. So I'm apprehensive but Im trying always. Keep your chin up and carry BONINE its over the counter and cheap helps a bit with dizzy and stomach but will make you tired, Bless you Mike

I had a couple dizzy spells a few years ago, they determined I was low on potassium, told me to eat half a banana a day to take care of it, which I did and I've yet to have another attack.

Hi Mike,
I know that I haven't been here for a long while, but I was curious to know how you were doing. You're in my thoughts that your health gets better so you can work on your beautiful music just like always.
Take care,

Hey Mike, I don't really know you BUT I want to wish you well. I was diagnosed 19 months ago with Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma at 68 and totally became depressed. I had to decide what to do. I didn't want the treatments but was afraid NOT to take them. I started getting angry at God and all that stuff and was in a Major Pity Party. I was up in the Middle of the night a few days later trying to figure it all out and WHY ME...and all that crap. I wrote this Song to God called HEY GOD IT'S ME AGAIN...I've have had my struggles with faith and writing this song helped me figure some of it out. I decided NO Treatments and became a Vegan, take a lot of special supplements, Pray a LOT and write a lot of meaningful songs about peoples lives. SO......As today is the DAY Jesus Rose and gave us the GOOD NEWS I just wanted to also wish you luck....Keep us posted and start writing words and notes down about this Journey because the songs you will write about it will help others....Keep the Faith...Barry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmutLAiGHRA
