Hey Guys,

My 13 yr old daughter has just started playing electric guitar after playing acoustic for awhile.

Any suggestions for an effects unit ? Either individual or combined ? What would be the most cost effective option ?

cheers, niteshift

A multi-effects is the most cost effective if you get a good one, but many sound awful. A Boss Me70 or something similar is good. Individual stomp boxes are what serious guitar players use....usually an overdrive and a delay followed by a compressor and thousands of others!

A wah pedal is guaranteed to drive the parents crazy.

Thanks guys, got that one covered. Have the output to headphone gizmo which is great. And no noise for the household. smile

Ok, sure, I know it's all personal preference, but any ideas on a unit which has pre-defined presets and can also be manually controlled ?

cheers, niteshift the keys player

PS - yeah Colin, don't go all pro on me mate, I know it's a big ask, just something which does the job at a reasonable price. ie.a unit which does overdrive/delay/chorus/reverb +/- wah?

PPS - going down the pro music store tomorrow with said daughter, and don't want to look like an old dickhead. smile

Not sure if it's still that way, but the BIG MUFF used to be a reasonably priced, great-souding fuzz box.
I think that they may have jacked up the price recently, though.

Hey Todd,

Big Muff ? I'll be sure to mention it so I'm "In the know" LOL.

Geez, this is really going to be an experience. Music store dudes vs old tired music dude with rock chick daughter.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh........................

cheers, niteshift

DAMN!
I bought this thing in the early 90s for $50. It's now going on eBay for $300-$400.
Wow.
I lost mine in a flooded practice space.
Sucks. That was a great pedal, too.

They do make a new version, too. Not sure how it stacks up, though.

Take a look at line 6 models. They make amp modelers with all kinds of presets and effects both in foot pedal models and others like the Pod 2.0 which I use. You can find lots of demo videos on YouTube as well as www.line6.com. I know a lot of guitarists who play through Pod pedals and they love them.

what does she listen to?.......that would be where to start, does she like rock?..overdrive or distortion....ect.

I'd go delay pedal, seeing as how most practice amps have overdrive already....delay can draw interest pretty quickly.

Stevie has a good suggestion. The PODs are a good bet for a multi-effects and come in cheap and expensive versions.

We ended up with a Boss ME 25 , http://www.rolandus.com/products/details/1058

Lucky said guitarist has practice headphones.

Whah whah whah ....... smile

Michael - when I first asked for a stomp box, I WAS lead to little wooden boxes with wires coming out of them. smile

cheers, niteshift

I had shot pickups on a very old electric and took the board off and miced it. I would like to eventually have the guitar restored. It is a sixties model.
But I noticed quite a bit of versatility and breathing in that hollow body that it did not have.
