Vic,
This is nice. What a great story as well. Nice production, solid progression, nice fills and solo, and your voice has never sounded better. I'm diggin this song. Well done!

Wow, that is a great BIAB first effort -- heck it a great tune under any circumstances. Everything is really mixed to support the story and the vocal. Great listen.
BIAB (especially Realtracks) has allowed Janice and me to explore genres we never dreamed of. Band members who show up on time, and are sober, and can play about anything!
Check out our new album Janice Merritt "Am I Blue Enough?" on Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, Amazon and others.

Nice song, Vic - I like the rebel-slanted lyrics. BIAB seems like something look at. The guys on the Banjo Hangout talk about it a lot, but I've never tried it. Nice foot-tapper, too. Sounds like you're having fun and what better way to do it?

Hi Mike. Yeah it's all BIAB on this one. Just to try it out. I will be changing a part or two for real though but I am surprised how good some of the real tracks sound. Thanks for having a listen. Vic

Holy Cow, Vic. This is catchy as can be both lyrically and musically. Gonna listen a few more times to this one. I'm jealous, my friend. Your best that I've heard IMO.

Hi Vic, Congrats on learning a new toy. Sounds like you've mastered it, good overall musically. Cool toe-tapper. A couple small things with the lyrics. Verse four doesn't fit in with the rest of the verses as it's vague where the others talk about someone specific. Also I think the bridge is the weakest link, it's not really adding to your cool story. The only other thing, since you say "you gotta be a rebel" I was expecting to hear "you have to be an outlaw". Just sayin. Ricki

Vic,
Good song. Great job with the Band! Would never believe that was your first try! You've hit the ground runnin'...
Nice vocal and harmony on this, too...
Looking forward to the next one...

Vic, You're a good enough musician that you don't need to use BIAB, which actually limits your arrangements. I prefer the "live" songs you've done in the recent past to this BIAB recorded arrangement. I think BIAB should probably be used by the musically challenged (like me) not the musically gifted (like you).

Hi there Ricki. Long time no see and I hope you're well.
The 4th verse refers to Mandella which I thought was clear enough but maybe I could change it to "Mandella grew old in his prison".
Re the bridge: My understanding of a bridge is to link up (musically/lyrically)two sections of a song with a part that is different to the rest of it. A bit like walking from a room where there's a party going on into one that is quiet to gather ones thoughts before returning to the party. That's what I thought I'd done in this. Vic

Floyd, thanks for the tip on this software. I don't know how much BIAB I'll use on the next but it sure helps on the parts I can't play myself. Vic

Sounds good Vic! Isn't today's technology great. A recording like this probably would have cost you $300 in a studio. Best, John

Dan, thank you for having more faith in my abilities than it seems I have. I welcome your compliment but although I can muddle through with some live instruments I can't play fiddle, mandolin or banjo and not much of a lead guitar either. In any case I may go live on some of those tracks later, but at the moment I'm having some fun. Vic

Vic,
Love the song, you did a great job, you sound wonderful as usual my friend. I think the lyric is great, but I feel the bridge is a little weak next to the write of the verses, but am very proud of you and your talents.

Tammmy. Thanks for your support. Must admit I'm perplexed about the bridge now as you're the second one to mention it. I thought it was just right until now. Vic

Verse four left me flat (and wondering). I was thinking it was referring to the saying "Steal a little and they throw you in jail. Steal a lot and they make you king." Outlaw music is starting to get big. They even have their own association now. You might just have a theme song here.

Hi Kurt. Thanks for your comment. Well that's two against that verse so maybe I'll go back to the original verse:
They got Black Jack's weight all wrong Where'd he rest his head? In some bloody gunny sack with a pine box for his bed.

OK. If anyone is out there, after taking note of some comments I've uploaded a version on Soundcloud with a new 3rd. verse. Here's the link http://snd.sc/1eFqL24and here's the verse V3 Black Jack. They got his weight all wrong Where'd he rest his head? In some bloody gunny sack with a pine box for his bed.
