Ok, Probably a good enough song but A BIT DATED! May I suggest you have the song demoed by a younger, maybe even female singer. I have at least one that I need to have a female singer do. When I get some money to spend! Keep writing.

I love the tune and yodel! The only thing I'd change is this

to

"Our loving cup was filled right up"

first let me say that you're pretty sick on the harmonica. Such an amazingly recorded tune! You've got a voice fit for this style of music and witty lyrics to match it. "In your oyster bar of love
I got an empty shell Now your menu caters to A different clientele" cracked me up. Nice yodeling too, although i can't really be a judge for that cause i don't know anything about yodeling. I'd totally buy your album if i saw you live.

Yes, the treatment maybe a little dated but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing.

Seems like it has a little "new orleans" feel in addition to that texas influence that Jimmy Buffet used when he was becoming Jimmy Buffet (ha, ha).

Good tune, I am sure it is a good live number. Good luck on your CD that is coming out soon. You got it going on! Very nice hook line, too.

This is awesome in my mind--it pretty much has everything going for it, so rather than point out each, I'll just say well done. One thing that did stand out that I thought was really well done was your quick transitions between verses and chorus without missing a beat or getting ahead. You see a lot of unnecessary pauses with many writes, and I'm not insinuating that every song needs quick transitions by any means.

If it were mine, I might consider "titling" the song, "I've been thrown out of better hearts before." That expression is one that "I've never heard before," but so cool and fresh, yet really basic. That line will be remembered most with this song, and using it as a title should also reinforce that--good for marketing IMO.

As an experiment with the ending, (which I like how you have it now,) I might try another ending where you kind of mumble to "her" after the yodel something to the effect "You know are you sure you really want me out of here honey." (find the right words) It might be humorous to see him kind of childishly express that he "really" doesn't want kicked out. Just an idea, not sure, and it may not be as good as what you have, but might be worth experimenting with. I just heard it in my mind a bit.

This will be a memorable song on an album for sure and one that a listener just wants to participate or sing along.
Loved this song, has kind of a combination "Americana/Modern Country feel."

I loved it!

I did have one random thought -- instead of "restraining orders" maybe "carryout orders." It's just a small thing, but the restraining order makes me think he's doing something over-the-top wrong, instead of just regular love-gone-wrong stuff!

Now for something completely different... Yep, definitely Taylor Swift material. Nice flow lyrically and it's very easy to listen to your vocals. Except for the yodeling. Yeah, not into that at all but it magically fits in. Great hook too.

But I REALLY like the song that followed "in that box" I usually click off after the song in question plays. Kept me listening.

I loved this song. Awesome hook. "Cuspidor" lost me though. I had to look it up. You did a rise on the line "Now I don't fill the bill" then you went back to verse instead of the chorus. You've got AABABCB. Have you thought of tickering with the structure? - Like ABABCB then follow with the instrumental part you currently use as a musical bridge. Your "C" bridge could contain the ideas you currently have in your 3rd "A". But cut back the pace,shorten it to four lines and musically bring it to a climax. As it is, it's very good. But I really don't feel there's a climax yet.

Yes, I could hear the Statler Brother feel to it at first....and yes, I could hear an older style of Hank Jr as well......BUT, the artist that really could knock this one out of the park on radio today I think would be Toby Keith. I think it fits his vocal, his style, and think that it is perfect for him......good luck with it Kurt, and thanks for sharing a fun little song. Totally enjoyed the listen.

I don't think you can put a date on good music and this one definitely qualifies as good music in my book. The arrangement is terrific and the writing absolutely stellar. The writing alone, with it's unique phrasings and content, gives the song a more contemporary feel that I really enjoyed.

I'm not sure about the use of the term "restraining order" because I think it gives the singer a darker vibe than I wanted him to have, but that's a very small tic on an otherwise awesome production. Well done.

....BUT, the artist that really could knock this one out of the park on radio today I think would be Toby Keith. I think it fits his vocal, his style, and think that it is perfect for him....

A really fine write with an absolutely killer chorus. And it's all surrounded by a top notch production. "Dated" means nothing, zip, nada, to us when it comes to music. There's not a decade since the 20's that doesn't have genres and styles we dig. Much enjoyed this!

I don't see a thing wrong with this. While I have no music biz experience (as long as playing in a garage band doesn't count), I just can't see how this could miss. As Eddie said, it has everything going for it. It is catchy as can be, has a great hook, and just killer lyrics. Whats not to like?

Great stuff Kurt. Love the lyric and the musical treatment. I love Western Swing. The last chorus is a pleasant surprise with the harmony vocals and the tongue in cheek humor.
