Missing Mike Parrish
Verse 1 In a bar just south of Birmingham Like a shrine, there’s an empty stool The regulars won’t sit there It’s an unwritten rule Cause since he turned up missing It’s reserved for their friend Blake The bar flies did what they could do Took the steps that they could take
Chorus They put his picture on a twelve pack On the back of a box of wine On whiskey bottle labels The inexpensive kinds On the mirrors in the bathrooms Of every Honky Tonk and dive For the people that might see him If he’s out there alive
Verse 2 There’s dust and cobwebs on the bar stool And false sightings now and then From Beale street up in Memphis To a cell in the Georgia pin The truth be known he found the lord He’s out west preaching in a church So all the things they did for him They’re just not going to work
Chorus Like put his picture on a twelve pack On the back of a box of wine On whiskey bottle labels The inexpensive kind On the mirrors in the bathrooms Of every honky tonk and dive For the people that might see him If he’s out there alive
Bridge To the bar folks he’s still missing To the good lord he’s been found On Friday nights they tell this tale As they drink another round
Chorus We put his picture on a twelve pack On the back of a box of wine On whiskey bottle labels The inexpensive kind On the mirrors in the bathrooms Of every honky tonk and dive For the people that might see him If he’s out there alive

Thanks Lisa - I was starting think it was going to fall off the board without comment.

Hi Mike...good write sir. Enjoyed the read! Had a minor thought in V1. Keep or sweep. GL with it. -Tim
Cause since he turned up missing It’s reserved for their mate, Ben The bar flies did what they could do To pay homage to their friend

Hey Mike Very nicely written. That "turned up missing " bit kinda bothers me, but that aside nice job.
All the best Joe

Thanks Joe - that's a southern phrase - I will rethink how to say that.

Very nice work, indeed. I'd take the suggestion from TKO, if it fits the melody. Very nice suggestion. I love the bridge. Very strong and clever. The only part that bothers me, is the first line of the second verse. It doesn't fit the verse, in my opinion. But, what do I know? Great write. Loved the story.

Thanks Rick - the 1at line of the second verse I was trying to show passage of time - I'll think about how to do that in a better way.
