LOL.

Hey, Springsteen plays 3 hours minimum, often 4 hours and he is 63 years old! One night a concert was delayed by rain until midnight, he still played till 3 am!

His shows are for everybody, it's not just incessant jamming that bores the average person, there is something to entertain everybody on any given night.

Something for musicians, something for songwriters, something for girls, something for the men, something for the political, something for the emotional, something for the lonely, something for the partiers.

Just tremendous, but all live band opinions are welcome...

Oh, Fishbone are not a jam band in any sense. When I said they "jam" I meant that they ROCK.
Sorry for the confusion.
But, with Fishbone, it was (past-tense) all 7 members moving constantly and all playing the HELL out of their instruments at the same time.

And I have seen Bruce. He is incredible.

Honestly, I've seen hundreds of live shows and it's hard to pick "fav live band"...so I'll list my top 10 concert experiences instead.... believe it or not the WOW factor was present at probably half...but it was KINGS X at a little bar in Augusta, Ga in 1991 that knocked me plum out!!!!
Live youtube vid does not do their live act justice but here's a taste of one of their best albums......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bi6oyy1Y8Xw

and rounding out the top 10 concert/live experiences....

2.Stevie Ray Vaughn- "Antoins" 1980.
3-Big Head Todd and the Monsters- Telluride, Co. 2002

5. fIREHOSE/Uncle Tupelo -- The Blue Note, Columbia, MO 1989
6. Television -- Mississippi Nights, St. Louis 1992
7. Neutral Milk Hotel -- Lounge Ax, Chicago 1998
8. Super Furry Animals -- Lounge Ax, Chicago 1997
9. Jonathan Richman -- multiple times, multiple venues

Ive seen u2 and Clapton on your guys list. Both great

See, some bands play concerts, others put on shows.

I saw grateful dead a number of times, they were great for a concert.

But I have seen Springsteen over 30 times, and it's an experience.

4 hours of bliss. and who enjoys playing more than he does, he aint doing it for the money anymore, thats for sure.

Let's see, who have I seen...

The Who, unfortunately never with Keith Moon, being I wasnt even into them when he died. They were really good but not like clips of days gone by. I think that was around 82 and once in 87

believe it or not I saw a band called Triumph from Canada, simply because a bass player I was in a band with dragged me there, pretty good.

Ive seen Crosby Stills Nash And Young, several times, due to another band mate who was into them.

I've seen Joan Jett lol, due to a girl I was seeing who was into her, We had good seats, and I could see everything Joan played, not one open chord the entire night all bar chords!

But she put on a great show alot of energy, though I was embarassed to be there.

I've seen... Chicago at the pier in NYC
Saw Stevie Ray and Gregg Allman on same bill same place. Incredible guitar playing.

Clapton twice once during his pop era, and once when he refound the blues later on.

James Taylor, a girl dragged me there, and I must say I was blown away, as were people who were crying, i mean WEEPING they were so moved, and all the women putting flowers on his stage, was quite touching. Great writer and player.

U2 and end up getting in a fist fight in the parking lot. Well actually was breaking it up. Over girls, what else, but they kind of instigated it, next thing I know I see my buddy punching and getting punched with three or four guys pounding on him.

I jumped into the pile and started peeling people off, ended up getting punched in the jaw, and I threw a few punches, and then a thought came to my mind...

u2 is such a peace involking band, they are against this kind of thing, and I belted out "Hey, why are we here tonight? Why are we seeing u2 this isnt megadeath.

The fighting stopped. LOL never forget that

Ive seen BB King a few times.

Tried to get tix for sinatra one time didnt work out.

Saw Boston, great band

Billy Joel at Yankee Stadium

Kiss lol, another girl, I had to be the only guy there who wasnt wearing denim.

Many others those stand out for various reasons.

nope, nor have I ever wanted to be.....I can't do springsteen, too middle of the road for me, though I totally get why he has reached his station, he has an intensity live and he puts himself into his lyrics. ....but he's one of those guys that I don't care for hearing him do his own stuff, much like dylan.....can dig other artists covering them, just don't like the writer's delivery.

You have to go to a show to REALLY get it.
Well we had no idea that was going to happen, but were too far back to matter. After sleeping out all night to get the tix, it would hav been great to be in it.

His voice is an acquired taste, and I think you like harder stuff.

But I mean, Ive dragged friends to these shows and they were stunned, floored off their arses, even though they dont like to listen to his music alone.

His records are only half the story. Live it steps it up.

Even James Hetfield of Metalica was blown away.

I've been to a springsteen show, watched it from off stage, used to get comp stuff all the time, could have met the band, I declined....wasn't interested. You may think I like "the harder stuff", but I dig very few bands that are heavy in any sense, and when I go the "americana" route .....I'll go with James Mcmurtry or Freedy Johnston and the like.

By the way, I never could stand metallica, so the fact the James was blown away really means nothing to me.

By the way, I never could stand metallica, so the fact the James was blown away really means nothing to me.

Do you think Metaliica likes your music?

Nice Mac,

Must have missed that one.....most are of poor quality. This one certainly the best so far.....and what a repertoire of music they have. They are one of my fav hard rock acts period....and a great bunch of guys.

Gotta agree with Mac on Bruce Springsteen...I get it, too. He's earned his wings. I disagree that you must BE THERE to "get it"....99% of his radio ventures did very little for me, and if they sing, play and party at a Bruce show, they're doing what they ALL do. Now I may have a new found respect if I'm to see him live but I know enough about Bruce and his music to know that there's no epiphany to be had.

Honestly, his "mass" appeal has more to do with the mass exodus from Jersey of most of their population in the 80's. (kidding)

Granted, "Nebraska" was great, but what Bruce is, IMO, is the most successful cult act ever. "TOO MIDDLE OF THE ROAD"....couldn't have summed it up better.

As many as they want, you can do that when you have a world wide audience, minus yourself.

They started adding on players after he did his pete seeger tribute album with alot of horns.

But he can blow alot of people, minus yourslef away all by himself.

this is a rehersal nonetheless. Let me know when you write a song like this.

Cause you have a habit of dissing some of the biggest names in rock music, as if you make better music. You even went as far to say you know 5 players who live near you who are better than Jimmy Page, stop the insanity please!

Instead of dissing it why not respect the opinions of others.

Just given it back where it came from

Not a big fan of either King's X or Metallica.
But I respect them both (Metallica a little less).
Point that I am eventually going to get to is: we all have our own taste. Nobody's right and nobody's wrong.
Which is why it's silly to get hurt feelings over arguments over these kinds of lists. Even if it is fun to argue about them.

Here is the man who I called my favorite live concert:

The man is nearly 70 here. He was 66 or so when I saw him.
Amazing.

yeah I agree, debates that are rooted in reason are fine.

To deny the power of music that comes from the likes of led zep, the who and springsteen, is to take three of the most reveered, time tested, long lasting musicians of all time, is not arguing, that is just being silly.

Not everybody will like it, but you dont last 40 years, and influence every major artist thereafter without doing something right.

I can say Taylor Swift is not very good, because she hasnt stood the test of time, I cant say Hank Williams sucks, even if his voice drives me up the wall. It would make me look stupid for saying it.

Dig that Nil Lara track, Mac!
And Willie Nile: I've, so far, liked everything that I've heard from him, too!

Yeah, Willie always put me in mind of Paul Collin's beat...with touches of the band and a little harder edge.

What willie does better than anybody else is blend every piece of music he's ever heard and make his own. A true craftsmen.

Never a boring title for a song, always something cool

If you listen to enough of his stuff, you would think Elvis, Buddy Holly, The Stones, The Beatles, The Who, Cheap Trick, The Ramones, The Clash, Springsteen, Tom Petty and any offshoot from there, all got together and made an album.

Great artist who hasnt had a ton of accolades, but the fans who do know him know he is all that and then some.

I have to disagree with you and MAC. firstly he was NEVER a radio guy, never got alot of radio airplay, born to run was about the only song. He got enough but not like Deep Purple, The Beatles, Traffic and some of the other mainstays ion classic rock radio.

he was NEVER a hit song artist, he was an album guy.

NEBRASKA was great? Indeed. He did that on a four track casette recorder all by hiumself, no band, nothing.

And I disagree that his appeal is for his exodus from new jersey, his famous song born to run was about that, but people in ireland and the uk love this guy, it has LITTLE do do with NJ

They love him overseas as much if not more there.

His mass apeall comes from his writing about basic human wants and desires. Where other people write about love all the time, he writes about family, being a relavent member of society, about struggling and darkness and wanting to bust out of it into something meaningful and true.

You dont sound as if you know much about his music, in all due respect. His radio songs that got played were maybe 3 or 4 songs tops.

And you can t really say if being there makes a difference, how can you judge how good a group is live without ever seeing them

And if you aspire to write great songs he is one of the best to study.

But keep agreeing with Mac, you guys should write a song together.

London, Barcelonga. Ireland? where else??/

or maybe you want to read a book written by a minister who uses springsteen songs in his sermons!

His music means alot not just to me but to millions all over the world.

Hey, evidently i'm not alone

And God help Bruce Springsteen when they decide he's no longer God... They'll turn on him, and I hope he survives it.
John Lennon

I admire Bruce Springsteen because he's a heroic person who has lots of integrity and has this incredible body of work that is so vital.
Elizabeth Wurtzel

I will always desire to play with Bruce Springsteen. He's the most inspirational, most dedicated, most committed and most focused artist I've ever seen. I like to be around people like that.
Max Weinberg

Bob Dylan and John Lennon and Bruce Springsteen, these are soul guys. Bruce Springsteen might not sing like Otis Redding, but he sings with white soul. He's singing and he's writing songs from the bottom of his gut.
Robin Thicke

I have actual dreams of Bruce Springsteen calling me up on stage to wear a bandanna and play rhythm guitar next to Little Steven.
Tom Perrotta

Probably my favorite piece of music, as an album taken as a whole, is Bruce Springsteen's 'Greetings from Asbury Park.' I just think it's incredibly pure. It's a sound that sort of broke new ground, and I think it paved the way for a hundred people that sound very similar.
Shane Black

It's often the case that great artists - people like Bruce Springsteen - tend to pick up the subterranean rumblings of profound social change long before the economic statisticians notice them. Changes start long before they become statistics.
Wayne Swan

I want to get to the point where one day I don't have to have anything but a rug and a microphone stand on stage and still be able to sell out places like Madison Square Garden, like Bruce Springsteen does.
Demi Lovato

I want to be like Bruce Springsteen or something, making songs that are relevant.
J. Cole

Even the master himself gets in on it. Imagine Dylan writing in your style as a tribute to YOU. Only Dylan can do it. If you know Bruce you will hear all the references to Springsteens style in it

madonna is considered a musical icon too, don't really care for what she does either.

it's okay, it really is bugsey. Just because someone doesn't care for springsteen or led zeppelin doesn't mean it's the end of the world, it's just opinion........like yours, others are free to have theirs too.

I'm sure springsteen himself would shake his head at all the "sore thumb" knee jerk vitriol surrounding an opinion on what he does.
