So my new CD, “Ataraxis” is being called explicit because of one song: “Psycho Bit#h” I’ve never had explicit language in my songs and really didn’t consider Psycho B*tch explicit. I enjoyed my squeaky clean image.
My question is this: Does it matter?

Hey Ig:
Congratulations on the new album. I hope it propels you to wealth and fame.
As far as explicit language goes... I'd say it depends on whether or not your Mom is in the audience... LOL!
All the best,
Dave

Explicit language is the same as any language: When used properly it can be powerful.

I would vote to say that it is probably not a good thing. Some folks that you want to hear it won't because of the explicit label. Others will be disappointed that it isn't "explicit" anywhere else.
Not much you can do about it now -- and in the end, it probably won't hurt or help too much.

I remember when the Sopranos were on. Every other word was F this etc., but it brings to life the characters, thats how they talk.
If the character in the song is inclined to use profanities, then they should be used. If trying to portrait the character as well mannered, educated, polite, nice etc, then you wouldnt use it.
That's how an actor can be a psycho killer in one movie, and then be a choir director in another.

Hey Iggy, you didn't say who it was that rated or called it explicit.

Thanks everyone! Ben I guess it was me! When I uploaded my tracks to CD Baby you had to check a box on each song title if it had explicit lyrics. Since the songs title is Psycho B#tch I said well yea, this song. Then I find my whole CD says "Explicit". Now all the digital sites list it as explicit. I dunno.

I would never think of the word bitch as explicit. Call up CDBaby on the phone and explain things. I'm sure that they will straighten it out for you.

Oh I guess I didnt answer correctly, is it bad for business is what you mean...lol.
Went on a tangent.
I dont know, usually people who want to buy music already know the song or have heard it before, so why a label would work in that case I dont know.
maybe so if a kid buys it, the parents cant su the store or the artist for being allowed to buy it without being of a certain age.
But they know the song already, and know what they are buying lol

Generally, I don't like to hear damn or ass and especially the "more vulgar" words in music. However, I have written a song called "Song For A Bitch."
I can accept it if it's not like the needless F word or words about anatomy in so much "young folks'" music though.
There's some phrases that are funny to me though that are really risque. A friend told me about a song about a woman who loves her dentist because he "fills her hole." Surely, she's talking about cavaties 'cause he's a dentist, get it? There's a version, an old version, when they never talked bad, about castrating the strawberry roan by those lovable cowboy singers Sons of the Pioneers.
From just the title, your song doesn't sound too bad to me. .

Humm, While I don't recommend using a "Colorful Metaphor" in a song if you can say it another way, and it still works, but if you do just make sure it is not the main feature of the song.

Thanks everyone. I’m thinking why not. I recall my last CD might have sold a whopping 10 copies, so if this one sells 15 then I’ll attribute the 50% improvement to the explicit lyrics and pat myself on my back. If I only sell 5 then I’ll never use bad words again!
Ha! reality check with myself. Why should I even have worried? Just Little Iggy from Manheim PA.
