I loved this lyric when I saw it a year ago.... I posted it with my melody and begged for a musician and sent it around and had no luck. I finally decided that I would have to learn how to do it myself, but I needed to learn to play it and record the tracks for it. This has been a long road of learning for me and patience on Michael LeBlanc's part but I believe it finally sounds the way I heard it in my head. Thanks to Dannyk1 for mixing it over and over...each time I wanted to re-do it.... I am not the same singer /songwriter I was when I took on this song, I feel I have taken a step forward by putting this together. YOU BELONG IN A SONG on SoundClick YOU BELONG IN A SONG by Michael LeBlanc © 2012 chorus: You belong In a song You belong In a song v. If I could find the words To put between the first and last I'd surely win your heart With a song your heart would grasp chorus You belong In a song You belong In a song v. If I could make it plain I'd be honest and I'd be true I will just sing your name And then sing "I love you" chorus You belong In a song You belong In a song bridge We are words and music singing in harmony our song's about forever, the perfect melody chorus You belong In a song You belong In a song

Very nice, guys. Tams, your recordings are really moving along in quality. It should be simple to update the lyric to the final version Bill

I think it's smart taking lyrics and putting your spin on it. You can grow as a writer and vocalist. The chorus harmony is the step I've been waiting for with you but why you'd only do it in every other line of the chorus is beyond me! Don't pause in the chorus; keep that harmony throughout. It's the chorus!
Chording is decent in the verses but don't get stuck within a pattern. You can vary. I would have liked to heard the last line different in chording, not just the last part of the last line.
Cool trick that might help you: If you already have a guitar and vocal finished, on 2 separate tracks, mute the guitar track and play along with it with some different chords. You'd be surprised as to what fits. Using a Dm instead of F, etc. Keep it up!

Tammy,
Nice song with a simple arrangement. Really like the chorus on this and the lyrics are cool too. I might steal Zeeks idea for changing up chords in a song. Great idea!
Hopefully I can get around here more now that work is slowing down for the winter. Glad you are hanging in there!

You've come along way on guitar Tammy. Congrats! Pretty song. Partly has a "Bread" feel. Maybe because of the production simplicity. Anyway, it works. Best, John

Wow, Tammy, this is beautiful! You took very simple and heartfelt lyrics and made them larger than life with your melody, arrangement and of course, your pretty voice! I'd love you to wrap a tune around one of mine sometime. One piece of advice: Make sure you put your name on the byline next to Michael's. Greg

It's true, you have come a long way since those acappella days. Although it was redone several times, I felt that the song got better and better each time. You are an inspiration.

Mike, I feel like a heel. I sat there and praised Tammy( deservedly so) but Never mentioned anything about the write. Please accept my apologies. I really enjoyed the write on this one. You keep on amazing me with the lyrics that you come up with.
Kudos, Danny

Tammy,
Man your vocal sounds really wonderful. There is something very Joni Mitchell going on here and it doesn't get much better than that. A wonderful folk song.
Michael,
Great write. I don't know how you can pen something like this and Children of the Corn Liquor. Both come from such different places and both so beautifully done.
Great job!

Has a Sarah MCloughlin vibe to it.
I like the simple directness of the lyrics, and I like the melody in the chorus.
if it were mine, and I wanted to pitch it, I would add a new line of lyric in the chorus between each "you belong in a song'
The way it was written, the melody writer had to enlongate the YOU... to make it seem like a chorus.
possibly this for a balanced chorus (it's supposed to be happy_
You BE E LONG in a song (a song that I could sing)... pause You BE E LONG in a song the words would have a ring
just a sug.
I like the melody as a hook but this might make it round out a bit better. Just a scratch the surface idea.
Also, the minorish feel of the verses inmho, doesnt support the celebratory message of the chorus.
It seems a bit moody and down as opposed to uplifting and happy.
It reminds moe kind of a Sarah Mclaughlin love is missing song.
Melancholy and sublime.
But of course, it's not mine, I enjoyed it and wish u good luck with it.

Nice song youz two......fantastic vox on this Tammy....what's amazing is you use little effect to get that voice....some of us must really hit the reverb but you've got a natural "folk-y" style that just suits you. Don't know any "you belong in song" songs out there off the top of my head.....sure they are out there....but great line, lyrics and performance one and all.
Agreeing here with the " you BEEEE-long in a song" way of singing but your way is cool too.....
Your way would work best if you just sang,...
"you, you-ou belong." (sung 3 times)
and then....
...."in a song."
Nice u two!!

Bugsey,
Well, I do love Sarah McLachlan, cool you hear that comparison..
The melody came out of how the words, it was a styling, just made it seem more fun singin wise, didn't elongate it for any other reason really.
I don't feel that a gal who sings "I'd surely win your heart" is necessarily happy....she is hoping to attract someone who is wonderful, but she doesn't have him yet, she's hoping, but not convinced....I also was going for a drop down into a jazzier laid back verse there, sort of Burt Bacharach style, I'm strange that way.
just my thoughts on it, but appreciate you taking the time to give me your thoughts too!!

Tammy Cool everybody has a different take, just seemed like you want to celebrate the person in the song, the singEE, not so much the singer, but I hear ya. good luck with it!

YEa! I missed this beauty! congrats to mike, our man of words, but wow tammY! chords progression is fantastic (with the back and forth between minor-major mood) and the whole is so naive and tender, it just calls the best '60 folk. so bravissima!
