My Heart Lied For You © 2013 Greg Swartzentruber/Wil Lim You never had to worry or keep your story straight Kept telling myself you were just working late When I saw those flowers on your Mastercard bill I thought that was so sweet, he loves his mama still You didn’t even have to lie My heart lied for you, that’s all it could do It wanted so bad to believe in you My head clearly knew none of it was true But my heart, my poor heart, lied for you The late night calls should have raised my suspicions But I wrote them off to important decisions To L. A. for meetings the whole week long But receipts from Vegas made me think I heard you wrong You didn’t even have to lie My heart lied for you, that’s all it could do It wanted so bad to believe in you My head clearly knew none of it was true But my heart, my poor heart, lied for you Your professions of love were so sweet to my ears My heart denied the signs through the years But I had enough, I can’t go on with one more lie Time to face the truth, make my heart realize My heart lied for you, that’s all it could do I wanted so bad to believe in you My head clearly knew none of it was true But my heart, my poor heart, lied for you My heart lied for you, but now it knows the truth And it will beat on without you No more lying for you

Well lots of looks and no comments... I know... it's perfect! Just kidding but all of the listens have managed to keep it at number one on Soundclick the past few days. So thanks for all the listens... I'm off to wait for the postal delivery of all those checks that are sure to be rolling in!

Greg,
Man, this is good. That kick simulating a racing heart with that piano sets it all up right from the get-go. I think the woman singing the lyrics really got the feel of this song....she owns it.
I like the panning of the toms in certain parts of this as well and the mixdown is damn near perfect.
Good luck with this, Greg. It deserves to be heard.

Hi Greg...
Great to hear another gem from you. This is very commercial. The percussions simulating a heart beating is a great touch!!!!
Your singer did a real nice job for you. Sounds pretty danged good to me...glad I dropped in for a listen. And yes, I agree with the previous comment regarding the panning of the drums in the last part of the song. lotos of nice tyouched all along the way. nice!!!

What really grabbed my attention here is the contrast between the rather sad and somber lyric backed with a very uplifting musical arrangement. I think for me anyway, that's what makes it work. This same lyric put to melancholy musical score might come off a bit melodramatic. I also thought the vocalist here did an awesome job for you. Nice work!

I kind of disagree with Tom, I think the lyric and track/performance work seperately, but not together.
It's more of a love ballad track, it's not saying what the lyrics are saying, it's more heroic and inspirational, I think you would be better off using the track as your guide and write new lyrics.
Could be like like Cher "believe" or "I found someone" "I will survive"
Sometimes an upbeat track works over a sad lyric, but usually in rock, not in heartbreak romantic songs. Just my honest feeling on it, worth working on.
