Hello, I am going to try something new -- I am going to use backing tracks. So, those of you that are morally offended by the use of backing tracks (especially BIAB!) should stay away! Don't worry, I am against the use of them, too! (ha, ha).

I am having quite the time trying to get the confidence that it will all work. Last night I did a couple of song test -- and I couldn't hear my mic in the mix unless I pressed tape to mix (which is totally not right). I think me going back and forth between the USB audio codec and normal PC sound threw things off because this morning everything is the way it should be. I guess I'll just reboot the PC before I fire up the SJ session.

Unfortunately, my lead playing has degraded beyond recognition and the backing track versions have many timing differences from my guitar/vocal version -- should be interesting.

Other than that, it will be great (LOL!).

1:30 PM EDT: Date/Time Converter. Depending on when Pat finishes, I may go on before this time (or after).

Hey Kevin! smile Unfortunately I won't be able to watch your show today! frown Good luck though! I look forward to hearing more of your shows with backing tracks in the future.

For the record, I perform with backing tracks too and I am not morally opposed to anyone who uses them. For my kind of music (electronic), it is literally impossible to do some of that stuff live and make it sound just as good. There's a lot of studio trickery involved with all the synth parts that are just impossible to recreate live.

I think as long as you're actually playing another part and/or singing live over the track, then there should be no objection. I also have seen quite a few StreetJelly folks using backing tracks too. There's a 14 year old girl named Lana I think who I have heard singing live over "Colors of the Wind." smile

And for the record, I saw Pet Shop Boys last month and I know that their tracks were all canned. There were no other musicians on the stage other than Chris Lowe, who does all the keyboard stuff, and Neil Tennant, the singer. The songs didn't all sound exactly the same as the recording, and Neil was singing live (I could tell), so it didn't bother me one bit though because of the nature of their music. smile

Yeah, Cecilee, but Lana can get away with anything:-) For Pete's sake, she even has an emoticon thingie named after her!!!

But seriously...The mix sounded great Kevin! You handle a couple of bobbles really well....It seems like a lot of folks are leaning toward backing tracks....I won't be one of the, since I don't have any, but they did add a nice little extra layer to your songs.

MidniteBob Thanks for stopping on by! ... and Sue, too.

I'll be doing acoustic sets as well as a mixture of acoustic and with backing tracks. To be 100% honest, the use of backing tracks is more fun for me. Of course, I need the guitar/vocal practice if I want to do open mics in the future again.

Hey Kevin!

Are Streetjelly "Performance" Times all Central Standard Times now? I went there at 11:45, EST, but no one was on...And now I see that Josie , who was scheduled for 11:00, just started.

Just wondering....And taking any excuse to bump this thread:-)

Edited to add: Nevermind. The laptop is was using decided to "fall back" a week earlier than everyone else...Go figure.

I agree that the backing tracks added a lot. Was especially fun, and unexpected, to see you pull out the harmonica. Didn't realize you were such a talented instrumentalist:-)

Nice job!

Hey Midnight, thanks for stopping on by!

By the way, did my guitar seem to be a "hair" out of tune? It seemed like it to me, but it could be that I was pressing too hard here and there and was going sharp.

The guitar was tuned fine to a440 -- maybe the mp3 player was not running at perfect speed(?). That didn't happen the 1st two times I used backing tracks, so maybe I just imagined it. I am going to test today and I might switch mp3 players.

Hey everybody, a quick bump to let you know that I'm going on StreetJelly this Monday night 11/11 at 8 PM EST. I haven't done a SJ show in about a month in between getting really sick in October and busy with work (I'm about to publish a novel that I've worked on most of this year! :D). It'll be a mixture of acoustic and electronic, as usual, and a few covers thrown in for fun. grin

Hope you can stop by and say hi! smile

Gonna do a few numbers starting today a noon (eastern) -- in about 15 minutes. They are going to be a few tunes that I never do much -- so just thought I would warn you all! (ha, ha)

I enjoyed your gig yesterday, Kevin. smile It's always nice to play songs you haven't played in a while. I like doing that while I'm practicing piano.

I'm going to do a show tonight at 8 PM EST live on SJ! It's in honor of my new CD Electric Blue Fantastic, which is available here (will be on iTunes soon)! I also have a new toy (or rather, a new app hehe) that will allow me to live mix my songs while I sing over it, called Launchpad that I'll be playing around with during part of the show. I only got the app about 8 hours ago, so I only have samples from a few of my songs. But this will allow me to play around with my own tracks live. grin

So some of the show will be my electronic stuff with me live mixing and singing, and the rest will be me and a piano. grin Should be exciting! grin

Thanks for stopping by last week, Kevin! smile

I'm doing another SJ show tonight at 8 PM EST, this time completely on the Launchpad app. So I'll be mixing and singing my songs live. VERY excited, I've been practicing my mixing skills. :D:D

Sorry that I've been out of touch for a bit. But if the calender is correct, then Sue Rarick is gonna be on in a few minutes. 9:00 pm EST, I believe.

Click the link in the first post and give her a listen, or support, or a $100 tip....Whatever....I'll be in and out during her hour myself.

Major bump here. smile

I wanted to let everyone know that I'll be on StreetJelly with my Launchpad this evening, Monday March 31st, at 8 PM EST! I've been really busy lately so I haven't been on as much this month, in fact, I think my last show was about two weeks ago. I'm really happy about this show because I have a few new songs I'm going to mix live, including an instrumental inspired by my recent watchings of the show Miami Vice. I plan to open my show with that. Hurray for 80s synth! grin

So I hope some of you will be able to stop by! You don't have to pay anything, it's free to watch, and I'd love if you said hi. smile

Here's the link where you can watch at 8 PM tonight:
