Well JPF'ers,
GLYNFEST 2013 went off without a hitch and through the eyes and ears of those who attended, it was a rousing success and a night full of music, thought-provoking conversation, food, fun and baring of souls. The highlight of the evening certainly goes to Glynda, our gracious host, who in spite of her medical issues and difficulty ambulating, she stood fast and welcomed us musical misfits into her home and life with warmth and an awesome "stage" in which to congregate and share our lives and music....and above all, although small in size, our group shared, laughed, cried, sang and became lifelong friends throughout the course of the night....which ended at about 1:15 ish. Thank you, Glynda !
The artist of the night was clearly, Harriet Ames who showed those in attendance how it's done. Her folk gems had us all in awe and her gracious and amusing tales were a lesson on how it's done. Kudos Harriet and thanks for the CD...I continued listening to you on my way back to Gun Barrel.
I could go on and on. But I'll finish by saying we accomplished all we wanted to accomplish and more. For us newbies to the sit n pic it was not only a chance to learn, but to expel demons, share our stories, gain experience and above all represent JPF and it's mission to bring us and our music together. A great big ass-smacking kudos to out leader Brian, for his support and awesome tee's and hats.
Officially announcing another JPF gathering in the coming months. I have access to a time share that would be perfect for a 24 hour sit n pic gathering of JPF'ers, which can accommodate up to 20 people. It will be in the area of Gun Barrel City, about an hour south of Dallas and am in cahoots with a sound and video man who could record the festivities and perhaps make a live CD/video of the event. Still in the planning stages for now but am shooting for a yule tide time frame (or Thanksgiving at the earliest).....
Again, thanks Glyn et al for a night to remember.

It was so great having everyone here, the neighbors joined in and they were fun...yes, I'm paying for it today, but it was worth it..I can barely move today, but when I think about last night, I'd welcome you all back today....I've not had so much fun in a long time..I certainly needed this...even though I called Mike my nale murse...meaning male nurse..I was laughing so hard at times I almost slid off the bench I was sitting on..
Yes, it was a night to remember...and I can't wait until the next one, hoping I'm not in a wheel chair by then...next summer is when Medicare will start and I can have my surgery..
But in closing....I do have some great friends now and I love each one of you....I've been blessed finding JPF's ...the best...thank you again Brian for everything....we looked so cool in our matching shirts.................topped the party off...

well Mike... got it almost right... LOL I was absolutely blown away by your guitar playing Mike. it made my songs sound so much better than with just my wimpy guitar playing. Was surely a night to remember! We sang almost every song we knew. (well at least the first half LOL) can't wait for an encore. and Mike if you can get some of the next event recorded.... how cool would that be? (bloopers and all...) Thank you Glynda for pushing us to do this. Just wish we had started earlier. not long before the commute for me will make it impossible. But I'll meet up with any and all of you as long as I'm still in the state.

Your songs are story and lyric driven gems...... I wank on guitar to compensate for my writing/performance/vocal issues....actually, I'm just continuing my bad behavior I've had since grade school....while the other kids were playing, I was usually noodling ....(or at least that is what the teacher told my mother, which would inevitably result in an increase in my Ritalin dosing)
No ma'am (ew, you hate that word, don't cha?) You owned the stage and I was honored that you allowed me into your stories and blown away as to how natural it felt tapping into them..... Kudos Harriet! You got my vote. Would like to get you back out for Glyn-fest II before you fly off to Wa. Keep your ears and eyes out on the Dallas blog for info.
Thanks again, Harriet.

Hello to all from Las Vegas! Glad to hear it went so well and I hope you guys took a group photo at least with your shirts on so we can post it here. For any future gatherings like this, always do the group photo FIRST so everyone is still there!
Congrats to the hard work of everyone involved and I am so glad you guys went off-line and face to face, which has always been a crucial part of Just Plain Folks from all the days of me touring around to see you all in person. I sure hope to make at least one more big go-round to see everyone and this gathering is a perfect example of why face to face is such an important part of bringing the community even closer together!
Thanks Glynda and all who helped and participated!

As for myself, I had a great time at the get together. I had already met Glyn and Harriet previously but it was no less exciting seeing them again. Finally got to meet Mike and hear that awesome guitar playing. Let's not forget Chris (Popbumper) Wow! That guy can sing. Every one of these guys and gals are the real deal, stand up folks one and all.

Boy, I am embarrassingly late on my reply to this. YES, I was so inspired by the event that the last two days I have done nothing but create more music. A special thanks to each and every one of you:
Glyn: For opening your home, a beautiful starlit evening and a view of lake Lavon, you are a wonderful host and now a dear friend, thank you for "putting up with us" for so many hours, your graciousness is NOT forgotten. I hope you feel better soon, and we can visit/share again.
Harriet - I am speechless, for the rendering, heartfelt and personal openness you so eagerly shared. Your voice is lovely, your talent supreme, your words full of both joy and heartache, your guitar playing and vocals astonishing. You are a wonderful woman, who is a survivor, having lived through some gut wrenching stuff. My heart pours out to you. You have risen beyond and exceeded.
Danny - You are truly a poet. A man who, as you said, wears your heart on your sleeve. A man who I can relate to. Don't be anything more than you are, you are a special person, and I hope to learn/share more with you. The connection we made was sincere, wonderful, and honest.
Mike - Well, Mike, you are, to me, a mirror. A mirror in which I see so much of myself. A sounding board on which to share. I have not met a person like you in many years, and I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity. I look very much forward to the ideas we have, the collaboration we will work at, and the time we will spend. For a guy who sat by the radio and played along with songs, your guitar is genius. Your voice is tender. Your words are stabbing and real, opening wounds and yet being a salve. Wow Mike. Where did you come from?
From my meager and personal perspective, it is a rare gift to meet with the company of strangers who turn out to be some of the finest folk I have ever known. Sincerely, I am humbled, I am astonished, and I am fortunate to know each and every one of you. It will be a night long remembered and cherished. THANK YOU ALL!
Chris

Another thing about all of us is that I felt like I'd known each one forever, yes I knew Harriet and Danny from one time before they were at my house and Harriet from being such a sweet lady, went to the doctor with me once and came to see about me last Oct when I was in ICU...but we all blended in so well like we were long time friends...that's another thing about JPF's....we are all like family and I love it...

And had anyone heard from Danny, he was to have knee surgery on Monday???

Just so everyone knows, I had knee surgery on Wed. the 25th. I am in recovery mode and doing well. Still pretty swollen but it is getting better. Starting to get some good range of motion back and walking pretty good. Thanks for all of the concern Glyn. I am doing well.
