Cecilee, Bob and Sue: Thanks so much for visiting and listening! I made a few flubs here and there and missed a few notes, but at this stage of the game, that is where I am. All in all, I thought I did about as good as I could have expected. Thanks for the support!!! Hey no problem! You sounded great to my ears. It was really enjoyable listening while I did some stuff this morning. Looking forward to other JPFers on SJ.

Good show today Kevin - had a good time.
Bugsey: Anyone can listen. You don't need to register to listen. You do have to register if you want to make comments. JPF folk are just a small part of the people there.

I am going to re-do my set from yesterday at 7pm EDT tonight. If you saw yesterday morning's set feel free to skip it (ha, ha)! Really? Cool! Yesterday's was too early for The Spousal Unit, and after several other "viewings" yesterday, she's beginning to wonder if there are any musicians there who are actually talented:-) We'll try to make it, at least for a while. As to "critiquing"...I can't offer a suggestion to change anything...You've got the "camera distance" proper now, your "dynamics" as far as stage presence and audience relate-ability were really good! It felt like you were actually communicating with us and seemed like someone I wouldn't mind having over for an evening of hanging out. You paid enough attention to see who was tuning in, and yet kept up the musical flow. Speaking of "flow", the song-order lined up nicely in a tempo-friendly sort of way...BUT, if I can tune in tonight, I'll listen more critically for any kind of momentum-jarring-thingy. Logistically, the sound/settings were spot on...Seriously, if I could suggest anything, I would, but I can't...Even your "minor flubs" were practically unnoticeable, simply because you were presenting yourself as a very easy-going song-sharer. Will listen more critically next time:-) Midnite

I only have one suggestion and it was told to me eons ago - Don't worry about a mistake - Only a guitarist would notice and they are usually broke and ain't buying - lol
I make at least one mistake each song - The magic of live playing is it really doesn't matter as long as people are entertained.

Oh, oh, oh! I got one Kevin!!
And it should be obvious, but last night, you & I saw what can happen.
Make sure your sound is functioning and the audience can hear you.

When he finally got it "working", he got caught in an endless sound loop -- I bet he had his speakers on! I always test and then ask if the sound is OK before I get started and then after the first song or two.

Thanks to all who stopped by!
Just checking back in for any honest jpf critiques -- enunciation, dynamics, pacing, song choice (order), did it drag at all?, clarity of guitar and voice (and mix). My voice and songwriting are what they are, so I am not too sure what you can say about that (ha, ha).

Just want to say this is a great idea and I am proud of all of you being ground breakers. If you guys and gals can recruit and get the numbers to 20 listeners or more per show, I will write about it and get the newsletter crowd involved. But I want to be able to show it to be a big success without big turnouts consistently.
What do you guys think? Maybe we can push it up to 25-30-40-50 with other users getting involved?

Here are my numbers from my two shows. #1 was at an inconvenient time for most, but I think I had extra attendance because I mentioned it on a few websites. ________Start Time______Duration (min)________Total Viewers________Peak Viewers #2____9/8/2013 19:00________42____________________19____________________11 #1____9/7/2013 9:59_________43____________________28____________________14
(sorry about the formatting!)
It looks like to me that between 6 and 15 viewers is what is going on right now (I have only seen one over 20). There needs to be a big influx on new folks to regularly get those numbers that you want Brian. If we can get 5-10 jpf'ers involved (and some others from other web sites), then consistently hitting 20 viewers will be doable.

I had planned to watch Kevin on the 8th but I had some people show up and missed it. Still think this is a good idea. I used to do this on Paltalk a few years ago but we did it more like an open mic event where everyone took a turn. It was video chat.
We sometimes had 30 Plus folks on a channle.

One more question: How was the video? I just did a SpeedTest thing and my upload speed was only 1.35 Mb/s, where the global average is around 6 Mb/s. My download speed and ping are just fine.

Hey everyone, Tonight at 8 PM EST I'm going to be on StreetJelly playing some songs again (YAY!), but this time, the theme is favorite 80s songs. I'll play some big hits, but not very many. AND need I also mention that I am including some French-language songs from the 80s mixed in with the anglophone tunes? So I hope that you'll be able to stop by even for a few moments to say hi! It's always nice to see people in the audience! Tentative list (I say tentative because depending on the time, I might omit one or two or even add something not on the list ) : 1) Don't Dream It's Over (Crowded House) 2) Everybody Wants To Rule The World (Tears for Fears) 3) Lost In Your Eyes (Debbie Gibson) 4) Just Can't Get Enough (Depeche Mode) 5) L'aziza (Daniel Balavoine)6) Running Up That Hill (Kate Bush) 7) Enola Gay (OMD) 8) Keep Feeling Fascination (Human League) 9) Let Me Go (Heaven 17) 10) Une Autre Histoire (Gérard Blanc)11) Feels Like Heaven (Fiction Factory)12) La vie par procuration (Jean-Jacques Goldman)13) Neverending Story (Limahl) 14) Sans contrefaçon (Mylène Farmer)

Sadly, I could only catch about 10 minutes before I was forcibly dragged out to a Chinese buffet:-(...I dunno, it seems like every time Cecilee plays, I end up going out to dinner.
Gotta get that I-phone app!
I enjoyed what time I had though. Thanks Cecilee! Catch you on the 18th.

Thanks Bob for attending!
I had 10 unique viewers and the most at any given time was 7 viewers. I don't think I can expect any more than that for a 9:30am show!

Good morning everybody, Here's a quick post to say that I'm going to be on StreetJelly at 8 PM EST tonight, this time playing all originals! I plan on making the first half of the show all acoustic with just piano and voice and then the second half will be electronic with me singing live and then playing another synth part while the background plays. I've been playing around with making extended versions of my songs to play live to make things a little more interesting. This will be the first night I'm trying this out. Here's my tentative list: Acoustic: 1) Long Distance Love 2) Human Again/Forme humaine (French and English mashup) 3) Madeleine (French and English mashup) 4) Island Girl Electronic: 5) Yellow Lines 6) Uncertain Smile 7) Viens ici mon amour 8) Bleary Paris Morning 9) Wild Blue 10) Rivers (the same song I posted in the MP3 forum, but with the more upbeat electronic background :D) 11) Close Your Eyes I hope to see some of you there! And hey maybe we'll get some more members from here onto StreetJelly too.

Hey Cecilee!
I am trying to go on at 12:15pm EDT, but I see Damian snuck in and grabbed the 12 noon slot!! Oh well -- ha, ha.
There is a flamenco guitarist on right now who is quite excellent.
I'll tune in tonight - although there is a school meeting tonight! I'll at least catch the end of your set.

I was paying attention today. I'm guessing you're paying for 1.5 meg speed. The sound is great, but the video is a tad, umm, skittery? Upgrading to 3.00 would probably solve it. I don't think 6 meg is necessary, although I'm thinking of upping mine from 3 to 6, but will wait until I see if 3 works. Midnite

Some things that might help.
Set your audio card to 16/44.1. Frankie said they stream at 16/44.1 so any quality above that is wasted bandwidth.
I have a lower speed so I take that in consideration which is why generally I don't have my guitar visible. That guitar and your hand moving also takes up a lot of rendering which translates into higher bandwidth. A striped or patterned shirt also creates more bandwidth use.
I would have to double check but I believe high contrasts verses muted colors/shading also uses more bandwidth.
As you can tell I am border anal retentive and I actually consider all of that.
PS: Hope you liked the mandolin tune (I was just adlibbing it)

I missed the last few performances, but Cecilee is up this Sunday and I'm hoping to catch that.
As for me, well, I've got the microphone, and last week I retrieved my guitar form the pawn shop. Now all I need is the mixer & camera. Any day now:-)
There's an interesting thing on Streetjelly on Saturdays around 3:00, called "NashvilleDiscoverMe" where they host several performers doing a few songs. Sort of a virtual open-mic/audition thingie...Various levels of talent from around the Nashville area.

I think I will do a lunchtime set today at 12pm EDT. I only have 26 songs prepared to do in a guitar/vocal format and my set is 11 or 12 songs (so you've probably heard them all before!). One of these days I will get a mixer and that will open up maybe another 20-30 songs to the repertoire (once I learn them, of course). Until then, it is just a lonely guitar and caterwauling. Cool ... Don't you just love that turnaround. Simple but just so cool.
I've really got to pay attention to everyone's schedule. I'm writing a book about 3000BC in Tennesee and was busy doing research (did ya know Tennessee got it's name from a defunct tribe called the Tanasi).

There were people that lived in the Tennessee area that built mounds, were farming and used copper to make tools and weapons over 5000 years ago. Then they disappeared and so did most of their technology. My theory is that they were overrun by hunter gatherers that wanted what they had and took it. The same thing happened in the Indus Delta and to the pre-Khmer peoples But what would have happened if they had been able to better defend themselves and had continued to progress with their technology?
The more I research the more fascinating pre-history becomes.

OK, I went and ordered the PV6 USB Mixer. The main complaint about all these low end mixers is the potential for noise. According to the reviews, some of the units are quiet and some of them are terribly noisy. I hope I get a good one! I was on the fence between the Alesis 8 and the the PV6 (2 more potential inputs is always nice), but the PV6 was on sale for $99! It is funny because the PV6 really only has 4 independent inputs (3/4 and 5/6 are combined) and the Alesis 8 has 5/6 and 7/8 on the same buss. ... but they both have the RCA tape in also so I can run the MP3 player through it. Once that gets in, I will start practicing to backing tracks and see what happens. I am morally on the fence about using backing tracks (ha, ha) -- but I think it will be more fun for me to be able to play leads and do more stuff. I do think 100% live is always better, but I have to admit I am getting kind of bored just doing the guitar/vocal thing.
