Thanks to Floyd Jane for the music and production http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=12474831&q=hi&newref=1THE THOUGHT OF HER (verse) Got an email from my sister Said that shoppin' down at WalMart She bumped into this girl she really likes Sweet as I could ask for When she heard that I'm off fighting She asked if it's okay for her to write (chorus) Well, that girl's become my fantasy I just pretend she's here with me In the solitude of night She takes me to a better place Back to how things were And I think I'm falling in love With the thought of her. (verse) The guys thought I was crazy Cause I acted like a school kid 'Til that letter came on Wednesday just 'fore noon Finally got to see her She's as pretty as a picture And she signed it love and kisses, see you soon. (chorus) Yeah, that girl's become my fantasy I just pretend she's here with me In the solitude of night She takes me to a better place Back to how things were And I think I've fallen in love With the thought of her. (bridge) Yesterday my war was finally over I feel a peace that I have never known They put me on an airplane back to Dover I'm comin' home, Lord, I'm comin' home. (chorus) And I'll always keep that fantasy She'll be with me eternally In the solitude of night I'm in a better place Free from how things were But I'll always be in love With the thought of her. Yeah, I'll always be in love with the thought of her Bill Osofsky, BMI, Floyd Jane, ASCAP copyright

"And I think I've fallen in love With the thought of her"
One of many nice lines. The arrangement works very well to support both the lyrics and the melody. Sad but with the promise of better things...tough to write like this and not have it sound maudlin. You nailed it. Thanks for the chance to listen.

Hi Bill and Floyd,
This is just LOVELY...and wow, it sounds beautiful!
I didn't see the ending coming either, but I think it's the ONLY way it could have ended because if they had ended up together, it wouldn't have been believable. As it is, with his death, it feels almost like the woman in WalMart was an angel, sent to make his last days on earth a little better, with the hope/thought of falling in love!

Wow. Great song, Bill, fine performance and production. I absolutely love the ending. Chilling. Touching.
To be honest, I'd pull it from the net immediately and get pitching.

Wow, super writing and great performance/production. This is big time number. Well done all around.
It's a classic. Sad ones are a tough sell -- unless they are this good.

Geez, Lisa. You've thought this through a lot more than I did, lol. An angel would be a great idea. Wish I'd thought of it. Bill

Very good Bill and Mr.Jane...The flow of the second line was somewhat awkward for me. Maybe word selection made the phrasing odd, to me.
Got an email from my sister Said she was down at WalMart (think shopping is redundant given the location) JMHO K or S

Remind me to tell you about the time John Prine said one day he and I would either write a song together or do a gig together and I chose the gig.

I hope the gig at least came with a guaranteed beer Funny you should say that, Floyd said this morning that he's working on a lyric of mine that's going to have a John Prine sound to it. Maybe he'll need a bass line on it Bill

Hi Bill Nice to see you again. I just gave this one a spin fine job by all. I dont know if you had pitching in mind or were going to invest in such. While some may encourage you to shop and I feel it has potential I don't feel its ready to pitch at that level. On the lyric end there's lots of great ideas and imagery. But the continuity swims a bit. You can sense that your trying to set that story up in the 1st verse and its a big story. This line doesnt help it not supportive enough "She bumped into this girl she really likes" Does it matter if the sister really likes her and is the sister angle the only options? Got so little real estate with a song gotta get clearer. There more, but you;ll see if you start nailing down parts the others expose them selves kinda like a cross word puzzle which Im the WORST ever at. The Music! Was waiting to latch on to something more melodic. Maybe the beat of the phrasing. Its pretty and all but whats gonna make it stand out and pay off more. I think you have a something going see what others say if u shop it. All the best Mike
