(Vs) Pocket's empty except for lint Money like patience's getting spent Stifled dreams they wear me down but I'll dream until I'm in the ground
(Vs) Thought I'd be somewhere by now yet still surprised I'm here somehow I've had my share of trying days but a quitting thought never stays
(Pre Ch) What keeps me going are the songs inside They give me breath, keep me alive
(Ch) I breathe because of music and I'm happy when I play God given and I use it to breathe another day I breath because of music When I play it comes alive God given and I use it Giving it and me a life
(Vs) Loneliness it can take its toll Women like sunsets come and go The road will sometimes wear me thin but the means they justify the end
(Vs) I might not see the bright lights Sell sold out shows on weekend nights Playin's all that I wanna do Just happy being here for you
(Pre Ch) What keeps me going are the songs inside They give me breath, keep me alive
(Ch) I breathe because of music and I'm happy when I play God given and I use it to breathe another day I breath because of music When I play it comes alive God given and I use it Giving it and me a life

Thanks all, I appreciate you reading and commenting for sure. Although I've never been on the road, I used other songs for reference on how it can be.

Hi James.
I just want to say I really like this, too. You've captured what most songwriters and performers eventually come to realize, that you do it because you love it. If you do it expecting fame and fortune, you may as well pack it in.
This was very well written. Good luck with it.

Greg Thanks Greg, I appreciate the read and the nice comment. You are so right, I write because I love it, it's therapeutic and just plain fun. Anything after that is just icing on my favorite cake.

With James's kind permission, I've posted my melody for this https://soundcloud.com/onegreystone/breath-of-music I've had to sing it a bit lower than I would have liked, due to sore throat. Neil

Hi Neil and James -- this sounds really nice! It has an almost theatrical flair to it, which is cool...like I could hear it being performed on stage! --Lisa

James, you are a true songwriter. Only a true songwriter could have written this.
