Keepin' Country County By Jacqueline Richter Copyright 2013. All Rights Reserved.
As I strum my old banjo Here under heavens stars I'm not thinkin about riches Or buying fancy cars
Won't take the cold green put tradition in it's grave Granddaddy's backwoods music is what I play
Keepin' country country Is not an easy thang to do When bright stage lights Are swung in front you It's not the next big thang It's the beggining of it all So keepin country country Is where I lay down the law
My loyal hound pup Champ Lies listening at my feet He don't mind the Nats he's got a front row seat
The pollywogs and lightenin bugs are on their way The beetles are filling in As em' crickets start to play
Keepin' country country Is not an easy thang to do When bright stage lights Are swung in front you It's not the next big thang It's the beggining of it all So keepin country country Is where I lay down the law
At our summer jamboree, the show is always free.... We love entertainin, Hey, diddly, diddly, dee...
Keepin' country country Is not an easy thang to do When bright stage lights Are swung in front you It's not the next big thang It's the beggining of it all So keepin country country Is where I lay down the law

Hi Jackie,
I like that you "open" the song with the banjo, it sets the stage.
Just a few thoughts here. By "green" in the second verse I assume you mean money? Those two lines could be smoother and the last two lines could line up better with the rhythm in your first verse, perhaps:
Won't take those cold greenbacks And put tradition in its grave Granddaddy's backwoods music Is what I'm gonna play.
In the chorus, I think it's "where I lay DOWN the law".
Fun song. I could hear a lot of good country music with this.

I occasionally meet someone in Nashville who tells me old country is coming back. I always tell them that's it's not going to happen. Music changes all the time, and it evolves forward, not backward. I do like Little Big Town, and there is some tradition in their songs.

Hi Jackie,
Yes, I think it's got a bluegrass feel to it. I really like it.

Not much has changed since that song was written. But yet I wonder if it isn't about time for a traditionalist revival in country music. You are speaking your opinion here, and communicating about how you feel is never a sign of weakness. So good luck and hope to hear the finished product one day. Peace. I am getting ready to post one of my original lyrics about reminiscence here.
