I run the Erie Canal Song Contest for the Niagara County Historical Society and the Erie Canal Discovery Center in Lockport NY. This is the fifth year for this song writing contest. The deadline for entry is April 1st, 2012. The contest is for songs about the Erie Canal, the Locks or life along the canal. For the rules and application form visit the Niagara County Historical Society's website: NiagaraHistory You can also check out last years winner as well. Our own Stu Shapiro, aka Doc Stuart, placed songs in 1st place on two occasions. The awards will be presented on May 5th, 2012 at the Erie Canal Discovery Center in Lockport NY. The song contest awards are given in conjunction with the annual "Key to the Locks" award that is given to a local citizen for contributions to the community. The top 3 entries are requested to perform their entries there. Lots of fun.
