I think the recent surge of cases is due to the fact that songs dont make as much money as they used to. When the gold rush was happening, nobody cared if something borrowed from something else, but now that at least 70% of income from song sales is gone, one way to make it up is by looking for somebody to sue. I could personally name at least 50 songs that borrow from something else and no suit was ever filed.

Not sure why people think they are writing original songs. I could go through this forum and find similarities in everything, and often do. If I accused one of them of stealing something, they would probably argue tooth and nail that it sounds nothing like it.

12 notes, one chromatic scale to work with. And nowadays, music is recorded with the same tempo, and same time signature alot of the time, so how much wiggle room is there? not much
