Fisher: Their Major Label Career Is Blooming
A few months ago we asked Kathy Fisher and Ron Wasserman of the band Fisher if they would like to become Just Plain Folks Mentors. They recently signed a major record deal with Farm Club/Interscope and have been in the studio all summer recording their debut album for the label. We were going to introduce them as mentors several times, but because of their phenomenal success and the huge demand on their time, they hadn't been able to write the article we had planned together to go with the announcement. Because they are about to be launched into the stratosphere on the pop charts, I wanted to share this update with all of you, so you can help cheer them on!
Kathy and Ron write:
Big goings on in Fisher Land this month. As you probably know, we had been planning on putting out our new album early next year. Generally only very well established acts put out records at the end of the year, because everything -- advertising, shelf space at the record stores, etc., is much more expensive than at any time of the year.
All that might have changed in the last few days, however. A couple of DJ's at a radio station in San Diego called Star 100.7 heard "I Will Love You" on the Internet. They did a little bit of research on us, and called up our record company to see if it was okay to play the song on the air. "IS IT OKAY?" I said when they asked me.
Anyway, Star 100.7 started playing the song on Wednesday, and the reaction has been nothing short of phenomenal. Their phones haven't stopped ringing, and their program director told our record company today that he thinks this is going to be a #1 record! Oh my gawd!
All of a sudden, the record company wants to put the new album out in mid-October, and we are scrambling around trying to get everything finished. The record company is also going to test the song on some stations in a couple of other cities, just to make sure that San Diego isn't suffering from some freakish aberration of music taste. So if all goes well, we are all going to have a new Fisher album out a few weeks from now.
Meanwhile, thanks for all your patience. This has been a long haul for all of us, but perhaps now the wait is over. XOXO, Fisher
