Common Ground CD "Hard Choices"

Email: markcloud@uncommonlyround.com Loc: Murrieta, CA Genre: Folk/Rock

Common Ground was founded 22 years ago by the late singer/songwriter Cheryl Cloud ("Gifted, sweet voiced..." The LA Times). Sadly, Cheryl passed away in 1995 after a long, valiant struggle with cancer. She left behind a legacy of hundreds of great songs and asked the rest of the band to keep them alive for her. They have been happily doing so ever since through additional CDs and performances.

The band's first national single promotion of their song "Hard Choices" went very well. "Hard Choices" reached #32 in the New Music Weekly Adult Contemporary category. Currently, Common Ground's titles are available world-wide through internet sites such as Amazon.com, CD Now! Barnes & Noble, CD Baby, Earbuzz.com and may more. You can find out more about the music, the band and Cheryl's rather inspiring story at: www.uncommonlyround.com

"Much of Common Ground’s music contains many of the elements that made [Woody] Guthrie’s so beloved---lots and lots of songs firmly planted in contemporary issues, magnetic delivery…just people with good voices, catchy phrasing and strong links to great traditional numbers. Cheryl Cloud’s lyrics have a depth not present among many of the fresh faces of folk rock" Green Man Review

"Wings of Silver" was Common Ground's 2nd CD release, and the first after the loss of original singer/songwriter Cheryl Cloud to cancer in 1995. The LA Times remarked, "Common Ground deserve cheers for continuing on after the loss of sweet voiced singer/songwriter Cheryl Cloud...Wings of Silver us a sweet, soaring plaint."

On their 3rd CD release, "Live at the EMU Farm," Common Ground experienced what Dirty Linen magazine called "A celebration of the musical rebirth of the band." The CD has been very well recieved, garnering airplay all over the world.

"HARD CHOICES" Cheryl Cloud & Common Ground (1994)
"WINGS OF SILVER" Common Ground (1996)
"LIVE AT THE EMU FARM" Common Ground (1998)
"THE BEST OF COMMON GROUND: 1979-1999" (1999) Volumes 1 and 2
"SONGS OF CHRISTMAS" Cheryl Cloud Solo CD, recorded 1981 (2001)

Common Ground is currently assembling material for their 6th CD; plus, a Cheryl Cloud solo CD of her original material, taken from recordings made over a 19 year span will be released soon.

Steve White CD "House of Bones"

Email: sew@earthlink.net Location: Encinitas, CA Genre: Blues

Snapping twang, sliding bottleneck grease, and wringing beef-jerky riffs from his Taylor, singing with grit, groove and grace. Chuffing on a braced harmonica and pounding time on barbecue boom box with clog-clad feet. Just when you think you're as "Delta Down" as you can be, he slips in a smirker like "Living Large in My Malibu" or a southern-fried reading of Dylan's "Highway 61 Revisited" and you're swamp-boating past the mangroves and into the sea wearing an alligator grin. I recommend him to anyone who loves good music. -John D'Agostino/Award winning music critic L.A.Times

Eric Lamb CD "A Pause in the Kaos..."

Email: Dolylamby@aol.com Location: Solana Beach, CA Genre: Soothing New Age

Most of us come to occasional crossroads as we walk our path of life. Eric Lamb, unlike many of us too busy or timid to explore the challenge of the unfamiliar, chose a detour that took his life in an entirely new direction. His CD, 'A Pause in the Kaos', is the artistic expression of that journey.

After years of playing everything from Rock, Punk and Pop around the country, he decided to abandon his frenetic success and settle back on the ocean bluffs of Southern California, where his life and music have become 'in tune' with the world. He has been featured on San Diego's Channel 9 News and can be found on over forty MP3 Radio Stations. A review by the San Diego Songwriter's Guild printed, "Eric Lamb has produced an ambiance, an environment in which the listener may be immersed and yet remain undistracted from the accomplishment of tasks at hand...Lush synthesized sound sculptures are the tools used to create the mood...I found myself enjoying and being pulled into this mantra-esque music..." Joseph Burnham, CD "Zaandam"

Email: jkburn88@aol.com Location: Santa Maria, CA Genre: New Age

Joseph Burnham's debut CD, Zaandam, is an 11-track odyssey through the realm of new age music. An eclectic mixture of classical, blues, and jazz solo piano in a new age genre, Zaandam takes the listener on an hour long journey across the spectrum of imagination and emotion. Inspired by the visual masterpieces of impressionists Claude Monet and Alfred Sisley, as well as the elegance of the Montana Wilderness, Zaandam is a far cry from the repetition and simplistic phrasings that often categorize new age music.

From the intensity of a raging river to the soothing echoes of a quiet ocean sunset, Zaandam alternates between powerful, dynamic passages and calm, reflective melodies. If you're looking for background music, please look elsewhere. If you want to explore new avenues of vision and creativity in new age music, welcome to Zaandam!

Darci Monet CD "My Own Road"

Email: MinxMusic@aol.com Location: Los Angeles, CA Genre: Pop/Rock

"A twister of Wilson sisters-style pleading blended with {contemporary} modernism, Monet has a sensual delivery that alternately snakes and gallops along like a "Barracuda" in heat...when hurricane Monet hits town, the only survivors will be those fortunate enough to check out this mature and promising new talent." ~Lee Smith; Southeast Performer Magazine

Darci Monet has spent most of her musical career singing back up in Nashville for such highly notable artists as Steve Winwood, The Judds, Kim Carnes, Dolly Parton and many others as well as several high-profile local acts. Encouraged to branch out on her own, Darci's debut CD as a solo artist entitled "My Own Road" was released on January 20th, 2001. On this project, her powerful soul-tinged vocals and introspective lyrics combine with driving pop/rock melodies and chord progressions, offering a no-frills yet passion-filled listening experience. For Darci, who has lost 120 pounds since October 1998 via gastric bypass surgery, the album is the story of a woman going through a period of healing and self-discovery. In an effort to continue on her path toward personal and artistic growth, she has just relocated to Los Angeles to further pursue her career as an independent artist and studio musician.

Seth Horan CD "This Is The Session"

Email: Sethsbase@aol.com Location: Los Angeles, CA Genre: Pop/Rock

It was 1998, and Buffalo-born bassist Seth Horan had just returned to his hometown after leaving the group he'd been playing with for the previous year. Vertical Horizon, now one of RCA's buzz bands, was at the time a well known independent act, and Horan had toured and recorded with them on their RCA demo sessions, but personal chemistry and the songwriting-hierarchy of the band had become issues, and everybody felt it best that they part ways before any contract obligations were jeopardized.

Once relocated in Buffalo, Horan found himself with a slate of original material and no band to play it. Armed only with his voice and his bass guitar, he explored the Buffalo acoustic scene, the stomping grounds of indie sensation Ani DiFranco and the artists who influenced the latest sounds from the Goo Goo Dolls. He developed his own style of two handed bass guitar technique to accompany his singing, and everywhere he played, the jaws would drop and heads would... well, bop. Horan played in a number of acts over the course of the next two years, stylistically diverse and each achieving regional success, but ultimately losing his interest, as the other musicians never seemed to share Horan's interest in the POP SONG. One group crossed over into the jam-band scene, the other embraced the classic rock crowd. Horan left both groups in frustration.

The answer came in winter of 1999 in the form of producer/guitarist Scott Fletcher. An LA session musician, Fletcher had recently relocated to upstate New York to open a recording studio. This artistic team worked together flawlessly, and the result is the debut independent release from Sethsbase.com: "This is the session." The seven songs on this EP showcase everything that sets Seth Horan apart from other pop songwriters. His syncopated feel pervades these pop songs, making them instantly catchy, from the funk-meets-folk acoustic groove of "Tarot", to the over-the-top heavy pocket of "What You Don't Say", the material is strong all the way through, and is guaranteed to ensure Horan a speedy ride along the road to success. His ex-bandmates may have "everything they want", but with the release of "This is the session", Seth Horan discovers a funky style coupled with a unique songwriting skill that seeps through all the strength of his previous band experience and ! delivers it with the reverberating punch of his 5 string bass. It seems that Seth Horan may just get what he's been wanting, too.

Evan's Mixed Bag, CD "Mixing It Up"

Email: epigford@flash.net Location: Los Angeles, CA Genre: Jazz

History:The roots of Evan's Mixed Bag Jazz Orchestra go back-way-back to leader Evan Pigford's father, trombonist Major Pigford. Major grew up in 1940's Seattle, playing in Bump's Blackwell's Junior Band with the likes of Quincy Jones, Buddy Catlitt, and Floyd Standifer. In the 1980's Major fronted his own little big band, Major's Mixed Bag. Today, son Evan Pigford,s ensemble pays due respect to the classics of his father's day, with a repertoire rich in standards like Ellington's Sophisticated Lady and Cottontail and Benny Goldson's I Remember Clifford. But,the arrangements are 100 percent original,as are about two thirds of the groups 300-piece song book.

Ramona the Pest's CD "Little Knives"

Email: info@ramonathepest.com Location: Berkeley, CA Genre: Pop/Alt/Folk

Ramona the Pest: lullabies and tantrums for all occasions. For the past 5 years, Ramona the Pest has been luring music fans across the U.S. with a lush and compelling sound. With the haunting vocals of Valerie Esway and the atmospheric guitars of Lucio Menegon, RTP invites comparisons to PJ Harvey, Kristin Hersch and the Cowboy Junkies.

RTP's latest recording, "Little Knives," is its second CD and sixth self-release. It features twelve original songs that represent the band's mature professionalism and best work to date. Fans are drawn to to the universal appeal of the songs, which create a canvas richly colored by Esway's lyricism, honesty and urgency. Recorded and mixed in the band's Berkeley, CA warehouse studio, located just 20 feet from tracks of the Union Pacific Railroad, "Little Knives" is not unlike the year spent making it-- decorated with aches and pains, dust and trains, tantrums, crushed glass and scraped knees.

"Esway's lyrics and melodies are skillfully crafted and the songs are spooky and hypnotic..." -- Devil in the Woods Magazine

"The songwriting is strong and poetic-with a delicious dark side. The music is haunting and melodic... Esway's impressive vocal command lives in perfect harmony with Menegon's guitar mastery." -- Fairfield County Weekly (CT)

On his debut recording for eighth note records, “Living a Dream” Garrin showcases his varied talents as a songwriter, singer, guitarist, and bassist. FrodoCPU CD "FrodoCPU"

FrodoCPU is the brainchild of Frode Holm, who together with producer Atle Bakken has nursed this CD-project to completion. From searing ballads to hard-hitting power pop the new CD deliver world-class performances and production in a fresh and original style. We think it is "Trans-Atlantic Music" in the truest sense - influences from Europe and the West Coast in the famous "melting pot". If you like Steely Dan or Sting, chances are you'll hit it off with FrodoCPU!

"FrodoCPU blends the beauty of great songwriting and musical expertise to create an album of superior adult contemporary style pop. The music is very artistic and contains a classic style that has long been missing in today's pop realm. From the days when synthesizers ruled the airwaves and music with feeling was the king of the charts, this music brings a new light to the future of pop. ... All in all, this is one great album and something that a lot of people could enjoy if given the chance." -Michael Allison, THEGLOBALMUSE.COM

Moses Hauffen CD "Moses and the Guys with Jobs"

Email: moseseva@pacbell.net Location: Alhambra, CA Genre: Rock

Moses Hauffen (born Moises Carlos Hauffen, in East L.A.) has been writing songs since his days as a singer/guitarist performing with high school and college rock bands in Los Angeles during the late 60's and through the 70's. On the strength of his songs, one of these bands, That Happy Few, was offered a recording contract by ABC/Dunhill Records (a major label of the day) but the group decided not to sign!?! In the early 80's, Moses had a song picked up by Bob-A-Lew Music Publishing...... and was never heard from again. In the mid 90's, after hearing some of his songs, L.A. producer and cable show host, Vic Silva, urged Moses to record a CD "You're not getting any younger man." he said. He was right!

So with Moses on guitars and vocals, Rick Fowler on drums, and Ken Winber on bass, forming the core of the group, and with "V" Vladimir of VPI studios recording and mixing, the CD "Moses and the Guys with Jobs" was born. An eclectic mix of styles that include Alternative, Blues, Tex-Mex, Modern Folk, and Pop Rock, it also features Moses' sons, Paul (drums) and John (art work), and old friends from That Happy Few; Bruce Goss (guitar solos), Michael Heralda (harmonies), and Bill Hernandez (bass). Also rounding out the sound are new friends Tony Miramontes (Hammond B3 organ), Steve Moran (harmonica), Howard Swerdloff (percussion) and Thom Teresi (piano). The CD "Moses and the Guys with Jobs" was released and distributed by Rhombus Records in 2000 and was nominated at the 10th Annual Los Angeles Music Awards in Nov.2000 for "Best Independent Rock Album" Available at Amazon, CDNow, CDBaby, and Towerrecords.com

Mark Sturdevant CD "Mark Sturdevant"

Email:
squidstur@earthlink.net Location: Concord, CA Genre: Rock

Mark Sturdevant (your humble narrator) composed all of the music, lyrics and did the arranging of all 3 tunes that you hear. I/he also played all lead/rhythm acoustic/electric guitars, sing lead vocals and all background harmonies and program the drum machines with the slim hope that it sounds less like a drum machine and more like a drummer. A fellow named Bill Bentley plays the bass, keyboards and produces the CD which is in my opinion of rather high quality. Bill is a class dude! But back to me. An ex-navy, world traveler, musician with a BA and a whole lot to say and so little time to say it. I have many more tunes and much of my style is a compilation of jazz, rock, folk and even a little classical.

Barry Ginsbarg CD "No Regrets"

Email: StringDncr@aol.com Location: Santa Barbara, CA Genre: Instrumental

Barry Ginsbarg has been carving a niche for himself for more than 20 years as an instrumental acoustic guitarist performing strictly original music. His mellow fingerstyle playing and melodic compositional style have landed him gigs on bills with Steve Winwood, Kenny Loggins, Peppino d’Agostino and others. Following his recent move to Santa Barbara, California, Barry has been making a name for himself as lead guitarist with a variety of singer/songwriters and other performers on the local music scene. He plays electric and acoustic guitars in a variety of bands, duos and solo settings, with an emphasis on his solo performances.

This focus is evident on his three instrumental CDs: "Relax!," "Intuition" and the just-released “No Regrets.” As one reviewer wrote about No Regrets, Barry “knows not to mess with a good formula: breezy acoustic melodies over spacious rhythms, painting lush aural pictures.”

Barry's playing has been influenced by a wide range of musical artists, including current favorites such as Larry Carlton, Russ Freeman and The Rippingtons, Acoustic Alchemy, Neal Schon, Michael Hedges, and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Early influences include bands and musicians such as Led Zeppelin, Neal Young, The Beatles, Jethro Tull, Johnny Winter, Eric Clapton and Ten Years After.

jed. CD "If These Shoes Could Talk"

Email: info@jedrock.com Location: Los Angeles, CA Genre: Alternative/Pop

In the winter of 1989, bassist Brian San Marco, guitarist Kenny Mitchell, and drummer Robert De La Torre started a band. Shortly after, they added percussionist Keith Poncher. Best friends and band mates since high school, the band (known then as "Eleven:Eleven") has played in clubs all over Los Angeles. In 1993 Jeddrah founded jed. a music group to spotlight her singing and songwriting ability. She started singing and writing songs since age 9. She has always been on the lookout for musicians that help continue the process of refining her creativity.

In March of '99, Jeddrah found out that Eleven:Eleven needed a lead vocalist. After meeting and rehearsing together, everyone was eager to join forces. In the proceeding months the new jed. was up on its toes gigging throughout Los Angeles with inspiring new material. jed. incorporated the beautiful and talented Lisa Castle for backing vocals as icing on their cake. Just a few months later, Jerrold C. Launer recorded "Ride," their first single. This inspired a swooning of writing and plans to record a full-length record. Through diligent performances and writing new material over the following months, jed. had their list of songs ready and refined for recording. In March of 2000, with luck, good fortune, and the help of Executive Producer Timothy B. Schmit and Producer Hank Linderman, they began recording "If These Shoes Could Talk," their first full-length album.

Shortly after being nominated by The Los Angeles Music Awards group for "most outstanding performance by a pop artist," jed. released "If These Shoes Could Talk," under their own independent label, diggyRecords. Plans for writing new material for the second album are already brewing and the gigging hasn't ceased. "There is very little that they need to do to improve their act since they're obviously a band who has found their niche - and has a fan base to prove it" (Music Connection, May 2000). Plans for touring to promote their album are in the works. Listed as one of "LA's Hottest unsigned bands for 2000" (Music connection, December 2000), jed. is seen all over Los Angeles in the following venues: The Gig Hollywood & West Los Angeles, Luna Park, The Troubadour, The Key Club, The Whisky, Club Lush, Dragonfly, Martini Lounge, The Westend, Rusty's Surf Ranch, and more. If you're out of town or out of state, keep an ear and eye out for jed., because they are on a roll and on their way to perform for you live and on the radio.

Hit The Wall CD "Convergence

Email: rmrk@deltanet.com Location: San Diego, CA Genre: Alternative

Hit the Wall is an amalgamation of 60’s rock and modern alternative. Blending the powerful vocals of young front man Arrow Sabin with the psychedelic influenced guitar of seasoned rocker Stacy Williams, the band produces fresh music that seems to deny any “time stamp.”

The band is held steady by the Boston bred Ron Kirker on drums and long time San Diego bassist Bruce Davis. In 1993 Stacy met Ron while working on a compilation CD. The two quickly became friends, sharing musical tastes and goals. Bruce joined in 1994 and the three worked developing material for the first CD from 1994 to 1997. Arrow joined as lead vocalist in early 1999. Group members Arrow - Vocals and guitar, Stacy Williams - Guitar and vocals, Ron Kirker - Drums and vocals, Bruce Davis - Bass.

Harmony rich vocals and emotionally charged leads combine to bridge the gap between Classic Rock and FM Alternative. The band's first CD will be released early 2000. Visit the band web site for more information. Thanks to all of you who have stopped by our site! Stacy, Ron, Bruce & Arrow

Brian Cline Band CD "Hold the Keys"

Email: brian@briancline.com Location: Napa, CA Genre: Modern Rock

Brian Cline Band is a cohesive blend of styles and individuals. Stylistically, the music has been categorized as "acoustic pop," "alternative," and "modern rock." Their unique sound comes from a number of influences; pop, acoustic, Americana, alternative, folk, progressive, funk, and rock. Their music is positive, melodic, and dynamic; being rooted in the tradition of the 60's but with the edge and style of modern rock. The band is known for their energetic and powerful performances, playing approximately 150 concerts a year. The band has become a forerunner in the San Francisco Bay Area music scene, and has been a leader in promoting musical events that showcases upcoming talent.

BCB is comprised of (from left to right) Andrew Lion, who plays a melodic and funky five-string fretless bass, Brian Cline, who plays acoustic guitar and leads the band's four-part harmonies with a strong and passionate voice, Paul Batres, who holds down the groove on drums and percussion, and Rob Sherman, who adds his stylish slide and wah-wah textures on electric guitar. In most bands, usually the singer winds up going solo. BCB did things the other way around. The vision started in 1997 when Brian released Hold the Keys on his own label. The CD took almost a year to record and includes 10 originals and 2 bonus tracks. On the recording, Brian served the role of producer, co-engineer, played most of the acoustic and electric guitars, and performed all vocal, bass, keyboard, and electric cello parts on the disc. In February of 2000 the album was re-released nationally and in Japan by Icourse Recordings with distribution through Valley Media/DNA, the world's largest independent distributor.

Three Man Engine CD "Three Man Engine"

Email: ThreeManEngine@aol.com Location: Los Angeles, CA Genre: Rock/Alt

Three Man Engine has been called a band a la Zeppelin/Pearl Jam with a female hard-hitting in-your-face, yet sultry vocal, a la Grace Slick. They are currently performing throughout the Los Angeles area. Thanks to the Internet and high ratings on garageband.com, Three Man Engine's self-produced CD is getting their message out around the world. Due to a well-received CD they will be hitting the road in November. As performers, TME's songs will leave you, jaw-dropped and spinning. One fan of the band commented, "I'm not sure exactly what did it but I was left feeling like I was in that hazy after-sex comfort-zone when you know you could just blurt out your deepest darkest secrets and that they would be completely understood. If I could have only gotten through the fans circling the band, I know I would have spilled it all. Better luck next time." One of the best and most inspiring elements to TME is that one has to care enough to listen to the lyrics to fully understand the journey. Their ability to put "everyday emotions and feelings" into prose for the masses will leave you knowing that you are not alone. Sex and true emotions are the bed they lie in. So . . . come spend the night!

Gracie Hollombe & Tom Spath “New Rules” “You Lose”

The songwriting team of Hollombe and Spath began writing together 2 years ago and just demo’d their first two songs. “It’s progress, not perfection,” according to Hollombe. Her double x chromosomes and his x and y, along with their talent, join forces to create a lot of songs about relationships. They would be happy to snail mail a CD or cassette to anyone who is interested in hearing their songs. The pedal steel played by Marty Rifkin is definitely worth a listen. (Who says you can’t write country from L.A?!)

Ken Klar CD "Ken Klar"

Email: ken.klar@lmco.com Location: Los Angeles, CA Genre: Pop/Rock

I'm 34 years old and married and have been writing music seriously since I graduated from College in 1989. During that time, I've tried to take every opportunity to educate myself about the music business along the way. I studied Voice for a number of years, and taken songwriting classes from Kay Parker (Lyric Writing/Music Business) and Jai Josefs (Melody Writing/Chord Arrangement). But during the last few years, I've been taking fewer classes so I can spend time focusing on my writing and recording. I sing, as well as play drums, guitar and keyboard. My goal is to make a living writing and playing music, and I really enjoy playing out in clubs. My plan at this point is to play out locally once I get my CD finished. I've produced three songs and should be finishing up three more before the end of August. The remaining four tracks are written and their recording will follow shortly after. With regard to songwriting itself, I like to think of myself as a lyricist that writes melodies. While I'm completely comfortable with the melody writing, I'm most at home writing lyrics. I write with a number of co-writers, as well as write for myself as an artist. Over the last few years, that's been the best way for me to stay motivated. That combination makes me feel like I can write anything I want and don't have to be overly concerned with whether or not the song is commercial. Presently, I have about 24 song demos "in the can." They range in style from Adult Contemp., Country, and Pop/Rock. Usually varying with the taste and preference of my co-writer. I'm a member of NARAS, and TAXI, and am continually looking for potential commercial outlets for my music, be that through independent releases or Film/TV usage.

BITCH'N'MOAN CD "Electric City"

Email: Tinsel213@aol.com Location: Los Angeles, CA Genre: Rock

Don't tell BITCH'N'MOAN bassist Tim St. John hard rock is making a comeback, as far as he is concerned it never left. While someone at GUITAR WORLD magazine may have finally decided that bands like Motley Crue, Poison, Ratt and Dokken still had some chops left in them, BITCH'N'MOAN were still proud Semi-gloss/glam rockers back in the mid 90's when having good time songs was a bad thing. Now that this sort of music is getting attention again BITCH'N'MOAN is prepared to lead the way for the bands that led the way for them in a weird reversal of roles. The second indie release from this group "ELECTRIC CITY" has actually blended 80's good time, with 90's melancholy, blues based rock with Rick James funk, none if this is done intentionally, and that's what makes it so fun to listen to. If the single "SEX CHILD" doesn't get a reaction out of you, check your pulse. ATTENTION: 80'S BANDS GOING ON TOUR NOW, OPENING ACT AVAILABLE see "BITCH'N'MOAN "ELECTRIC CITY"

The Westerleys have worked with Grammy-winning Nashville producer Bil VornDick, and have opened shows for mainstream country acts such as Hal Ketchum and Pam Tillis. They also performed with Peter Yarrow (Peter, Paul & Mary) at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas in the summer of 1996, where they were invited back to perform on the Threadgill stage in 1998. Terry Sue Crawford combines a variety of musical styles, including pop, country, blues and rock, with down-to-earth lyrics about love, pain and staying close to God through all circumstances. She calls her genre "Touched by an Angel" to music. Her "Heart for the Broken" CD, released in August of 1998, features 11 mostly self-penned songs. The music walks a fine line, progressive by Christian terms, and on the "G-rated" side for the general crowd. Her tongue-in-cheek "Love My Neighbor Blues" leads the set list as a universal crowd pleaser.

"People are hungry for music that moves them and truly feeds their souls. And I have such a passion for reaching those souls and knocking down spiritual walls. I know what it took for God to reach me -- not preaching, but unconditional love and a relevant, nonjudgmental approach." Her credits include several hits on the European country charts, singing the National Anthem at Dodger Stadium, opening for Christian artist Crystal Lewis and a role in "A Chorus Line" at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.

Jesús CD "Jesús"

Email: JesusCD@aol.com Location: San Francisco, CA Genre: Latin

Jesús’s self entitled offers a pleasant eclectic sound that one could describe as gay world music. Jesús, who just performed at the 9th Performing Arts Show of Latino/a Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Artists, sings in Spanish although the sound of the album is more the lines of folk music. The guitar is the prominent instrument on the album, with melodies that are beautiful in their simplicity and which bring the voice of the artist to the fore of the music. And it’s the singer’s voice that makes this album a success. With a gentle and assured voice, Jesús whispers his way through all 14 songs on the album, the majority of which are love ballads. There is a very romantic feel to the album.

Kenneth Harper Finton Tape "Who Owns the Sun"

Email: KHF333@aol.com Location: Los Angeles Genre: Rock

“Kenneth Harper Finton has been writing songs and playing his own music since 1964 when he organized a folk trio that toured the Midwest and the East. Between 1969 and 1971, he became a staff writer for a New York publishing company. He also worked in production for Roulette, Atlantic, and RCA records. Afterwards, he moved to Chicago, then Los Angles, always writing songs and honing his talents. As a result, he has a book full of music and lyrics––over three inches thick and containing literally hundreds of tunes in many genres––rock-and-roll, folk, pop, and country. About eight years ago, he cut eight songs with Bill Porter (former head RCA recording engineer who recorded tunes for Elvis Presley, The Everly Brothers, and Roy Orbison, among many others). Though the session went very well and Bill Porter was extremely impressed with the quality of the songs, the arrangements and the vocals, Ken has still not released those tunes or showed them in the marketplace. Exactly what he has been waiting for is yet to be determined. He remains a man of mystery. Ken has been a publisher of books and the editor of a scholarly journal since 1990. This year he has ventured into publishing historical fiction and has organized his company, HT Communications, into a vehicle to launch new fiction writers into the marketplace. His latest effort in music is a 12-song digital album called WHO OWNS THE SUN. It is now available from HT Communications," writes Kenneth Howard Smith, owner of D-Town Records

Rebecca Dru CD's "Night Songs" and "Canti Notturni"

Email: NIGHT SNGS Location: LA, CA Genre: Childrens/Italian

Rebecca Dru, singer /songwriter, is the solo vocalist on Night Songs and Canti Notturni as well as co-composer. She began her music training at the tender age of three. Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, she comes from a musical family of seven children. Rebecca has been living in Los Angeles, California for the past 22 years, where she frequently works as a singer on recording sessions. She has also written songs for syndicated television and movies and has been a featured guest artist and teacher at UCLA as well as her songs featured on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand. She was a winner in the John Lennon Song Contest as well as '99 GoGirls.com internet award. She has received rave reviews worldwide and CHILDREN’S Magazine said The lyrics and music are beautiful; Parents find themselves wanting to listen to it for their own enjoyment. Rebecca has traveled extensively throughout the world, though is constantly drawn back to Florence, Italy, one of her favorite cities. The passion and romance that conveys in Night Songs and Canti Notturni reflects her obvious love Italy especially in “Cara Luna Amica”.

Having experienced the joys and challenges of motherhood, her commitment to children and their education has been fortified and she hopes to donate some of the proceeds of this project to various educational organizations and charities associated with children. Rebecca is also developing an instrumental music program there by purchasing all the instruments in the Orchestra, Symphonic and Marching Bands as well as some unusual instruments from other cultures. This affords children the opportunity to actually touch and try real musical instruments and to perhaps learn how to play them. The experience of the drums allow them to learn to read and play rhythms together as an ensemble. Being very artistic, when Rebecca is not creating beautiful melodies, she enjoys painting, sculpting, boogie boarding, practical jokes, laughter and spending time with her family.

Prophetess CD "Dichotomy"

Email: Motenyoc@aol.com Location: LA, CA Genre: Alternative Rock

Over the last few years, the development of the Prophetess has been one of the best underground stories on Los Angeles. Combining the musical influences of Catherine Wheel with Radiohead and Smashing Pumpkins, The Prophetess brings forth one of the more interesting imaginary modern rock sounds of the year.

The songwriting creativity of Mark Hawks and Tony tulle is best representative in songs like "This Vastness" and "India", which brings forth their ability to draw from their lyrical influences (Tom Waits, Lloyd Cole) and deliver their cinema-like images.
The Prophetess latest release, DICHOTOMY, is a collection of self reflective songs focused on upon elements that hold us back from our personal and spiritual destiny.

"How do you categorize a group that sings not of the despair of darkness, the shrouds of death, and the chaos of war and human emotions, but of a past long gone, where priestesses provided comfort and succor to the faithful? I find THE PROPHETESS miraculous." -Jo-Ann Green ALTERNATIVE PRESS

"Just their name conjures up images of vast lush forests leading into dark cavernous dungeons where seers and walkers perform wonderful miracles. In reality, they are one of Orange County's premier alternative bands." -Phillip W. Browne MEAN STREET MAGAZINE

Laurice CD "Echoes"

Email: laurice4@aol.com Location: Fresno, CA Genre:

The songs of recording artist LAURICE have captured the romantic imagination of people all over the globe. After achieving some minor hits in England and Europe, LAURICE crashed onto the international chart scene with the dance hits "We Will Make Love," "The Disco Spaceship" and "The Hotline." The British born singer/composer/producer was voted Dance Music Artist of the year for two consecutive years in Canada, charted NO 1 and Top Five in many Latin American, Far East and Benelux countries. LAURICE loves to write all kinds of material for other artists and for films: anything from rock, pop, Latin, r&b, reggae, hip-hop & dance to new age, instrumentals, ballads, folk, alternative, jazz & country.
LAURICE was all set to conquer the US music buying public when a very mysterious health ailment forced the artist into seclusion. Despite a near - permanent disability, LAURICE did not give up and has spent the enforced convalescence writing and arranging "ECHOES," the first in a cycle of new CDs combining soft rock/smooth jazz vocal and new age jazz instrumental compositions that stress versatility without compromising a love of rhythm oriented material. Also, LAURICE recently released his new reggae single "IT'S TOO LATE" for the dance market - one of his first loves. A few months ago LAURICE topped the SongOnline Internet singles chart with his prospective new ballad single"AM I FOOL ENOUGH." This extraordinary singer-songwriter presents us with a potpourri of exciting new material, blending the hypnotic rhythms of Latin and World Music with the traditional harmonies of contemporary Western song. "ECHOES" takes us on a journey of exploration, mystery and unique sensibilities --aspects of this artist's work that will continue to be explored in subsequent material. All tracks are performed and produced by a musician whose main purpose is to echo the thoughts and feelings that we all experience in the journey of life. Sit down, lean back and let "ECHOES" begin your quest.

Metrics CD "Paradigm Shift"

Email: glaserbeam@aol.com Location: Orange County, CA Genre: AAA

From the infectious melodies of Preamble to the biting sarcasm of Getting Off, and from the ethereal harmonies of On Either Side to the experimental "octophonic" textures of the instrumental title track, Metrics album Paradigm Shift is a hypnotic gem of a debut. Metric is the brainchild of JPF member Ken Glaser, a multi-instrumentalist whose all-you-can-stuff-in approach to recording has resulted in a diverse portfolio of tunes; some plainly commercial, some perfect for gracing a film soundtrack.

The press says: "Glasers varied material seemingly bridges the gap between the progressive rock styles of the 1970s and infectious pop of the 1980s, ever mindful of wit and insight." Orange County Register, 8/20/99 "This eighteen-song submission from Metric is about as arty as they come in the pop rock genre. It opens with a melodic, Who-like tune, I Dream In Stereo, which gives way to the soft, acoustic guitar-laced The Heart." Music Connection Magazine, 7/99

Hello, My name is Janine Cooper. I am a songwriter/singer and musician. I started playing piano when I was nine, but rebelled heavily - didn't know how to appreciate the gift of music until I was sixteen when I bought a bass guitar and learned to play while listening to Led Zeppelin, Elvis Costello and Talking Heads. I've played in many bands since then. I played bass with Let's Active and opened twenty four concerts for R.E.M. during their Pageantry tour. I also played bass with L.A. Alternative band Downy Mildew. Currently, I'm recording my own songs in my home studio and releasing them on my own label, Klina Music. My style of writing is quite diverse. I write pop, country, folk and I also compose instrumental stuff too.

Kate Bennnett CD "Over the Moon"

Email: kate@katebennett.com Location: Santa Barbara, CA Genre: Folk/Pop

If the old adage that you can judge a person by the company they keep applies to music, Kate Bennett is in good shape indeed. The Santa Barbara singer-songwriter counts among her colleagues Kenny Loggins, Jim Messina, (Buffalo Springfield, Poco, Loggins and Messina), highly acclaimed guitarist Jeff Pevar (currently the 'P' in CPR, David Crosby’s new band), and LA based session/touring percussionist and drummer M. B. Gordy. All contributed to Bennett's debut CD, "Over the Moon," described as “a record that sounds just like the picture on the cover…radiant,” with “exquisite harmonies”…and “themes…plucked from a lifetime of living from her heart and close to the land." (Montecito Journal)

As you might expect from someone who describes herself as "a nature girl," Bennett's songs are infused with the mountains and the ocean -- the most notable physical attributes of living in Santa Barbara. But they're also rife with the things you can't see: the rapture and anguish of relationships, the joys and struggles of parenting, the sensations of longing and belonging. Although she was born in New Jersey, Bennett is all California girl now. Soon after arriving in Santa Barbara during the 1970s, she began performing locally. One of her first public appearances was a concert at the prestigious Lobero Theater, where she shared the stage with several other local songwriters.

When friend Jim Messina invited her to join his newly created Songwriters’ Performance Workshop in early 1996, she was eager to participate and had a backlog of material to choose from. Under the skillful guidance of Messina, Bennett spent several years fine-tuning her song ideas and honing her performance skills. Soon she met Jack Lee at one of the "Songwriters in the Round" performances. Lee, who had just relocated his studio, Jax Trax, from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara, was eager to lend his skills as engineer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. The result of their collaboration is "Over the Moon," a CD that was produced with elegant simplicity, and an ear toward both folk and pop appeal.

BASK CD "The New Bandwidth"

Email: bask@baskonline.com Location: Los Angeles/Austin Genre: Rock

BASK. What a dumb name. What a horrible band.

Critically reviled and almost universally disliked, BASK incorporates the worst elements of artists like Air Supply, Slaughter and Joan Baez and produces an offensive, unlistenable mess. The four songs on this thankfully short demo display an embarrassing lack of musicianship and songwriting ability, presented with an unbelievable amount of bombastic gall.

The so-called band:

Dax Callner: Vocalist, rhythm guitar. We say vocalist instead of singer as Dax's intrepid gurgling can hardly pass for melody. Despite this, he expects us to wade through a nonsensical string of nouns and adjectives that he boldly refers to as "lyrics."

Ty Longley: Lead guitar. Ty should be ashamed of himself. This boorish excuse for a guitarist would be better off teaching high school shop class - missing fingers and all. His playing is decidedly derivative, with lead lines that remind one of neighborhood cats in heat.

Scotty Lund: Drums. Scotty brings new meaning to the word cacophony. His playing demonstrates the why metronomes and studio trickery are so popular these days (as if that would really help), and is about as tasteful as an episode of the Tom Green show.

Brian Netzeley: Bass. Brian is a walking advertisement for ear plugs. His awkward rambling and obnoxious pounding truly puts the "b" back in the word subtle. How can this 6'7" giant, looking the part of a bassist, fail so miserably?

Lucian Fick: Keyboard. With a name like Lucian it's no surprise that this supposed artist begs us to understand him while beguiling us with his intrepid racket. Lucian's playing washes over one like the polluted New Jersey shore, leaving an empty carcass to be hacked apart by vultures.

BASK: A more inept assortment of individuals can hardly have been assembled. What a bizarre twist of fate.

(Ed Note: This is a much longer Blurb than we would normally run. But because this press release/bio is unique in it's self deprecating humor, I wanted to include it in it's entirety. Though this wouldn't work for every band, it shows you don't have to be serious to get attention, and provoking a smile or laugh sometimes is the best thing you can do with your promotion materials. I like it when someone thinks outside of the box!)
