A Silent Sentinel Watching over the harbors of Gloucester, Mass  Or perhaps he was simply scoping out the fish being poured nearby  We had lunch in Gloucester, site of the book and movie "The Perfect Storm." You might recognize these pics in the movie...

Real Lobster Boats full of traps  the low back on the boat is so they can kick the traps right off into the ocean. You see the lobster traps marked with balloons and plastic jugs all along the Eastern Seaboard  Cape Pond Ice making ice for the fishing boats.. you'll recognize it and their motto "the coolest guy's around" in the Perfect Storm.

Out in the middle of the Harbor  We took a path less taken to get to the beach area where the old man in the sea monument is located...  and right around the corner was this beautiful starfish! Proving the road less taken is often full of wonders

The Old Man and The Sea Monument in Gloucester  This famous artist is perched on a rock precipice overlooking Gloucester. We conferred a bit..  This pic is of the most photographed and painted object in the world, the famous "Motif #1" in Rockport, MA on Bearskin Neck.

The view going seaward from Gloucester which was prominently featured in "The Perfect Storm." We hadn't seen the movie or read the book, but oddly saw most of the landmark areas during our visit and later realized we had them on digital pics.  The whole Gloucester/Rockport area is stricken with the tragedies of those lost at sea. In this Rockport Cemetary alone were countless plots to entire families of fisherman lost at sea, sometimes 3 generations lost at one time. What a powerful draw the sea must be.. what a merciless fate awaited so many...  This is the long view of our painter friends home above in Gloucester...

This is the USA's oldest Artist Colony "Rocky Neck" near Gloucester  Lots of great art galleries!  A painting of a church done by the artist below left... (also seen in the Perfect Storm)

I really like his work!  Linda really loved Carol St. John's work and got her book Taproots.  Site of a future JPFolks Showcase

The Madfish Grille.. future Show  Linda's fascination of the wildlife  was documented throughout

It was so hot, I felt like walkin in!  This dog defined "mongrel"  Nice backyard for an artist...

This is the view from the Old Parish Burying Ground that is full of lost families from the ocean which is breathtakenly seen in the background as a constant reminder and muse  This church tower in Rockport was actually attacked by the British in 1812. They shot at it from the ocean beyond to try to knock out the tower so the town couldn't be warned of their advance.  The shot hit the target, but stuck in the side of the bell tower and can still be seen as the dark dot in the left side of the tower. Because their shot failed, they backed off and never invaded Rockport.

Bearskin Neck Artist Colony in Rockport. A great collection of artist and craftsman...  Linda and Hilda Kaihlanen, an 80 Year old Rockport artist whom we loved and bought a custom original painting from. We can't wait to get it from them!  Lunch? Nope.. this lobster would live to fight another day....
